England Squad Announced

Unbelievable though - Southgate really is clueless and has massive blindspots that he is either not aware of and is aware of and doesn't care. Maddison is far better than his teachers pet Mason Mount. Rumour has it he wont take Trent and is taking the finished trippier.
Really? Trippier has been superb for the barcodes, and TAA has been poor for Liverpool.

Dier has been excellent for Spurs this season, so I'd take him, and Ben White.

Maddison hasn't been in recent squads largely because of fitness (started just 28 games last season, and just 24 the season before). He has rarely been fit for more than 2 or 3 months at a time in the last 2 years. He is bang on form now though, so I 'd take him. But above who? From that list above, I'd take him instead of Gallagher. Sterling? Well he's not had a good 12 months, but you need his tournament experience, Saka and Foden are the future so need to be there. Grealish is probably at risk not having been effective at City. Mount, has played fairly well for England generally would be harsh to drop him

Yeah Maddison for Gallagher for me.

Would love for him to take Harvey Elliot as a wild card choice. Really like the look of the kid and feel potentially he will be part of England's midfield for years to come, alongside Bellingham and Rice. Take him and give him that tournament experience, even if he doesn't start.

The problem with this club England is that it’s hard to break into the clique so fringe players might look elsewhere.

Plus the ridiculous over reliance on favourites like Kane and esp Pickford in friendlies means if they get injured before Qatar we are going in with very little experience in our cover players.

Kane out who ??? How many caps

Same for Pickford.

You just know Calvert-Lewin is getting called up.

I think Southgate will turn to Rashford first if anything happens to Kane. Don't think the likes of Wilson or Toney will get a look in, even if they do go.

That’s rubbish and you know it
No it isn't, look at his record he's missed a third of the last 2 seasons with injuries, he's then battled to get fully fit and on form after those injuries. He deserves to be picked right now, but for most of the last 2 seasons come time to pick the squad he's been injured, or returning from injury more often than not

He might have but that’s not why he’s been left out.

Rashford is another of his fall backs ( ie doesn’t matter about club form they are in regardless )

The problem is though you can't build any consistency and improvement if you change the squad at a whim all teh time.

We don't play friendlies anymore. I agree we lack back ups, or experience with those backups in some roles. But then when Pope or Abraham have played they've hardly pulled trees

So you are complaining that he always picks the same XI, but now that he has backups. Dear me, make your mind up
Back ups is a term for the Nailed on few that are part of club England regardless of form

I’m saying there’s not enough use of players outside the clique. Taking Toney and giving him zero yes zero minutes before a World Cup sums it up.

He's selected at least 40 players in the last 18 months. How many more do you want?

Don't think this is true at all.

Southgate's given more debuts than most England managers in our history.

Kane plays because he's far and away the best English striker and we're almost never playing friendlies anymore.

There's nothing ridiculous about playing your best striker and best keeper in competitive matches.

He's been in charge for 6 years and 76 matches, he's given 55 debuts.
Only 17 of those matches have been friendlies, and only 6 of them have been in the last 3 years.
