England Penalty

I can understand why the Dutch will be aggrieved by it, but it was a penalty. The Dutch lad raised his studs and caught Kane. It is a foul anywhere else, and a good intervention by VAR.

There was one in a previous match where a player offered his studs, didn't make contact with man or ball at a similar height / angle and it was given as dangerous play. Doesn't matter what kane did it was a reckless challenge.

Italian commentary were saying definite Penalty before it was given. Then confirmed it was the right decision after it was given.

Worrying so many people think this is a penalty. Would've been absolutely fuming if that was given against us and can accept it definitely wasn't a pen. If the ref had given it in real time I could accept it not being overturned, but for VAR to give that is an absolute joke.
Worrying that the majority of fans on a football forum agree with the referee, VAR and apparently Dutch and Italian TV?

I find it more concerning that people make up imaginary rules, including this idea that there's a higher bar for fouls in the box, which is simply wrong, and that pundits are so often unanimous over controversial issues instead of being brave enough to dissent.

Discussing with a mate who said Kane kicked him… yeah only because he put his foot in studs up. Like has been said, without VAR we’d have got nowt but who cares we got it we scored and we went on to win…

Let the pundits discuss it, let the fans celebrate 🦁 🦁 🦁

Not a penalty for me. His leg is outstretched to block the flight of the shot and Kane kicks the bottom of his foot.

There are views on both sides of the argument not just on here but everywhere. Immediately following the incident ITV's VAR & refereeing 'expert' explained patiently why it wasn't a penalty at which point VAR and the referee gave it.

It was Schrödinger's Penalty.........a penalty and not a penalty all at the same time proving once and for all that VAR is a complete waste of time in situations like this. The decision is entirely subjective and will be ever thus.

It’s only a penalty if you illegally prevent a player from scoring. Kane had already got his shot off before contact was made so no pen. Plus slow motion shows Kane kicked defender.

If Kane’s shot had gone in would you have disallowed it?
You enter the box near the by line, you see a team mate in a great position for a tap in and not offside and before you get your pass away you're wiped out. You aren't in a goal scoring position so according to you , no penalty.

What subjective about raising your foot and showing your studs?

That objectively happened

I normally defend referees but that was a terrible decision. Kane kicked the defender's boot with his follow through. The defender was not trying to kick Kane, just block the shot. His boot was barely moving towards Kane.

Kane made the most of it with his ridiculous rolling around, when there was barely any contact, prompting the VAR intervention. Then the ref caved in and gave the penalty. Was it a clear and obvious error?
No.

Would it have been a foul if the defender had tried to block the shot with his head? No.

There will be several instances in every game where a striker kicks a defender while shooting, will they all be penalties?
No.

Ridiculous decision.
