I really hope not. Getting excited because it's Germany is a little embarrassing now. Especially as they don't really care about us, we aren't the Netherlands who are their real rivals. It makes us look small to be so obsessed with a team that don't really care about us.

You can only have so many of "those" matches.

If it were based on the war then Russia, USA, France, Poland and a whole host of others would also be Germany's "grudge match".

It is so sad that politics and the past always creeps in and defines the games between these two sides. As a child of the 1960s I remember one of my uncles telling me never to trust the Germans. He lived in a dark house, in one room downstairs, no electricity and alone. He was seemingly forever a prisoner of the war and never forgot this. His past haunted his present.

He had seen things during the war none of us would ever wish to see. The past is the past. I was watching and listening to a group of young Germans, male and female, on the news earlier sat drinking in Berlin. They spoke perfect English. They were very respectful to the interviewer asking questions and one spoke of what a lovely stadium Wembley was. This no doubt in stark contrast to our own English boneheads slurring their words singing about German Bombers later on.

Nerves are good it's part of the overall engagement with the game. It makes it much more fun. I prefer a tight game so it keeps you nail biting to the 95th minute.
