I think it's positiuve that the current squad don't really have that history with this fixture. I suspect the Germans clinical approach towards tournaments is aided by not getting swept up by any emotion and historical grievances.

Yes but i see it a different way. I want an edge to our play. That it means everything. I trust Southgate gives them a Churchilian pre match geeing up. And not like Iain Duncan Smith.

I would hope for an edge in any tournament game. I know that doesn't always happen

I really hope not. Getting excited because it's Germany is a little embarrassing now. Especially as they don't really care about us, we aren't the Netherlands who are their real rivals. It makes us look small to be so obsessed with a team that don't really care about us.
 
Can completely understand the current crop of young players saying "it's only a another game" to be fair. Any previous hostilities are hugely removed from their lived experience.

I actually think that approach helps us - focus on nullifying their threat and doing what we need to do to win. No need to add any intangible rivalry or over-inflated sense of the importance of the fixture into our planning or thinking.

Exactly. I also hope the tabloids have stopped their embarrassing coverage of games against Germany.
