Digital season card passes at the riverside stadium

A lot of people are reading those bullet points as commands instead of things to consider before opting out. It’s literally an opt out form. Why would they bother with a form if they were forcing it on people?
Its a self - assessment form whether fans know how to use a smartphone and advising them how much they can buy one for. That doesnt sound like an "opt". It sounds more like - this is whats happening and you will do.......Its being rolled out - starting with diggi codes for 2023/24 card holders...and they anticipate full digi, then what else is it? They are hoping it all works smoothly - every one buys a mobile with their desired tech on it - from their own pocket - and hey presto. Why not put one option as *I do not have a smartphone "X". The assumption on that form is that you do. Its not an opt-out.

It looks like an opt out to me. There wouldn’t be a form for non digital cards otherwise. It says to bear in mind a compatible phone can be bought relatively cheaply. It does not say you will need to buy one or be excluded from going to games. It’s there to inform people who might think they need to buy the latest iPhone to go to games.

It has to be understood in the context of the press release by the club. I posted it earlier but I will post it again:>>>>>>>

The club are pleased to announce the phased introduction of digital ticketing for the 2023/24 season, after consultation with Middlesbrough Supporters Forum.

Digital ticketing uses NFC (Near Field Communication) which is a short-range wireless technology, as used for contactless payments. It's secure, fast and easy to use.

Supporters who require a new Season Card for 2023/24 – including seat moves, price category changes, and new applicants – will be the first people required to download their Season Card onto their mobile device. These supporters will be contacted via email and/or post ahead of the new season with full information on how to get set up.

Digital ticketing will be phased in, in stages, for existing Season Card holders over the course of 2023/24, and the club will keep fans fully informed in advance of changes to their requirements.

Please do not get in touch with the Ticket Office until/unless you have been contacted by the club regarding digital ticketing.

Digital ticketing will ultimately replace all physical Season Cards, with plans to push match tickets to digital ticketing in the future
. Supporters should continue to use their existing Season Card until informed otherwise.

A spokesman said: “NFC and mobile ticketing is something we’ve been keen to introduce for a while, and we’re delighted to be in a position to move in this direction.

“A phased roll-out means we can allocate resources more efficiently and provide additional assistance to supporters using the technology. Each area to be rolled out will be contacted as the season goes on and will receive full information on how to use NFC.

“This is a real positive step in that it will make it easier for supporters when it comes to purchasing tickets and for Season Card holders to be able to access their own pass via their chosen device.”

What a massive own goal this is.

A week to go and this is dropped on us

Absolutely zero chance my elderly relative who I normally meet in the stadium will do this.

When I can’t go I also give my mates a ticket for free.

We're introducing digital ticketing at the Riverside Stadium for the 2023/24 season.

You will not be receiving a physical card, but rather a digital Season Card which will be kept within the wallet of your mobile device. It’s secure, fast and easy to use, powered by NFC (Near Field Communication) which is the same wireless technology used for contactless payment. The digital Season Card only needs to be downloaded once, with the information displayed on the digital Season Card automatically updated for each fixture.

We have created a dedicated information section on our website for digital ticketing, with links below. The section includes; guides on how to download the digital Season Card to your mobile device on both Apple and Android, a matchday guide, containing some useful information on what to do when you get to the Riverside, and an FAQs page to help troubleshoot any issues and answer any questions you may have, in particular if you don't have a smartphone.

Please download your digital Season Card to your mobile phone or other device as soon as you can, please do not wait until arriving at the Riverside.

We want you to be set up and comfortable within plenty of time ahead of the new season, while familiarising yourself with the matchday guide will also help. Our stewards have been briefed and trained on digital ticketing, so they will be on hand to help if needed.

We are holding an open day at the Riverside on Tuesday 1 August, 12pm until 7pm, where we will open the turnstiles and run a matchday environment. Our staff will be there to assist with the downloading of passes and walk you through what is required when getting to the turnstile. You can then be confident in the technology and see for yourself just how easy it is.
What about children that don't have smartphones?

What about children that don't have smartphones?
More than one digital Season Card can be downloaded to a device, so we would therefore recommend that parents / guardians also download those of any children attending the game with them. More information regarding this can be found within our FAQs.
I have downloaded my ticket , but seem to be having bother downloading my son's ticket , any idea where I am going wrong ?

I don’t enjoy the experience at the riverside anymore. When we played Coventry in the play off fans, the dj ruined the mood. We had it perfect for the Brighton game.

The whole you need a boro id, a digital card, pay to print the cards out is sucking the life out of the fun of going to the game.

If boro feel people are abusing the concessions, get the stewards on the turnstiles checking tickets when the concession light flashes up. We have been at the riverside since 1996, why has it taken almost 27 years.

As a group of fans we don’t protest enough when something is wrong. The scousers Everton and Liverpool know how to do it.

A digital mafia is being forced on us.

It would seem that there is ( currently) an alternative to digital tickets available. The fact that this is still being discussed on here a week before the first game would indicate that not everyone is confident that this option will be available to them. I can’t believe that the club hasn’t had numerous phone calls or visits to the ticket office about this? Surely they should put something out clarifying the situation.

Those who are dismissing this as "nothing" forget that we're on a forum which requires access to the internet, so most of us are probably fairly tech-savvy.
If / when it becomes mandatory (and I think it will, why else bring it in?), it will almost certainly be the straw that broke the camel's back for my parents. Plenty of games on TV now, being able to enjoy a beer with the match and not having to go out on a cold night. This extra hassle for them is something they could do without.

I was expecting to go digital this season as my season card undergoes a price change to concession status from adult.
Then what do you know? A new season card arrived in the post today!
Confused dot com! All I can think is that they had already printed the new card after the early bird payment had gone through and before they released the digital information.
Im in the same position, no new card for me yet.
Happy to use the phone and was hoping to get the email to transfer

I’ve watched and read the comments and views with interest over the last couple of weeks. Clearly there’s a lot of differing views on this … maybe it comes down to peoples general comfort/discomfort when it comes to change. We all react differently I guess. Once we queued around the block for big games it was what happened. Modern times and means make it different ,but change will happen in any walk of life thats for sure.
In all areas of life we have the influence of technology, this is no different - recently I went to Leeds arena - digital ticketing, no issue - it was easy. They even checked if I still wanted them the week before and offered me a means by which I could sell back if no longer needed.
I’ve used NFC at a premier league ground a few times when I have been with work , it’s fine. I believe that club ( Liverpool for what it’s worth) had a few issues at the beginning , but the technology works … people’s habits catch up. The club reduced the price of beer in the concourse to encourage fans to get in early and avoid long queues just in case. Maybe a lesson there 🤷‍♂️

I suppose it’s like Amazon in a way, plenty of people lament the demise of the high street and all it was , but they use the new way and see the advantage. There is the view that everything is “controlled” now , and the world is all rather traceable … I doubt we stop this now .

I decided to get an ST for the first time in a few years for this season. Yesterday an Email came and it explained what to do .. I now have my ST on my phone ready to go for next week. Hopefully it works when I get there 🫰, quietly confident 🫣

I'd be fine with it if it were just me using the digital ticket. I use them a lot for games abroad. But, it's 2 kids as well with different adults doing the accompanying in my absence.

I'd have to transfer three tickets each time to one person's telephone. There's nothing in the notes that addresses moving kids tickets to others or storing all three season tickets on multiple phones.

I've only had the email for one ticket so far and none of the tickets shows a download button yet. At the risk of seeming a Luddite I've sent the opt-out form in. It's going to mean an 4rse on next week but in the long term, three physical cards works best for my circumstances.
