CURRENT SQUAD V KARANKA PROMOTION SQUAD

It's difficult because the tactics and system are very different.

The Karanka side also had some partnerships that were more than the sum of their parts.

If you were picking a side to play the Karanka way, I'd go Clayton/Leadbitter and Ayala/Gibson all day long.

Not necessarily better players than some of our current players, but that spine was rock solid.

You probably wouldn't want Ayala and Gibson to be trying to play through a high press though (definitely not Ayala).

A good question is which players would get in both sides despite the tactics.

I think Friend, Dieng, Latte Lath and Ramirez are the only certainties.

Cases to be made for a few others, but don't think it's clear cut.

I suspect Downing would've been exceptional under Carrick, but that's by the by.
This sums it up for me, the Karanka promotion team was a very different animal to Carrick's.

The only no brainer in this debate is Ramirez - he was on another level for us after he signed on loan and drove us over the line.

I don't think Kananka could work as well with Carrick's squad and vice versa, but I know which I prefer watching by a mile.

I actually thought of Newy after I posted this, apologies as don't remember previous thread

Return of the king aha, welcome back old sport, got to be happy with how the squad is shaping up ?

Are you drunk?
Stuani, played to date, 585 club games, scored 245 goals, one every 152 minutes with 26 assists, played in 2 world cup tournaments, played in 3 Copa America tournaments, has 50 full caps for Uruguay scoring 8 goals and people saying Jones is better. No I'm not drunk but clearly anyone who think Stuani wasn't a class act either have never seen him play or knows nothing about football

He was a class act and undoubtedly played out of position here but I think world class is pushing it a bit - I mean I don't think he would have got in the Brazil '82 team :ROFLMAO:

of course I would have loved for us to sign Tommy Doyle and Tomas Parmo.. but it wasn't to be.

Fisher <> Ayling
Crooks <> Azaz
McNair <> Hunt
O'Brien <> Morris
Greenwood <> Burgzorg
Rogers <> Hamilton

Looks like were steadily building... hopefully we can keep hold of Hackney. Big fan of Hamilton.. think he will be a great signing. Morris is looking very tidy.. very tidy indeed. I love a midfielder that doesn't get noticed! Saying that.. nearly scored an absolute banger against Heerenveen! Still haven't see Hunt in action.. but i've heard very good things. Burgzorg I think will be the player our fans wanted Morgan Rogers to be.. bit of magic, bit of spice. Future cult hero.

Engel still getting a bit of stick.. I think he'll do just fine. He's another one who has a few bangers up his sleeve. Needs the backing of the crowd and the fans.. a little bit will go a long way.

Hoppe seems to have been down to the last chance saloon and back.. don't know whether it's home sickness of what.. but it doesn't look like its gonna happen for him here. He just doesn't look like he fits.. luck isn't on his side. I fully expect him to be banging goals in the champions league two years after he is released mind lol.

Tommy Conway.. another one that ticks a lot of boxes. Think he's suit us down to the ground. Hope he has his head screwed on and makes the right decision. Conway & Coburn.. the new Sutton and Shearer.. get it tried out in the cup!

17 Hamilton
29 Conway

that'll do me!

What was his record for us? Which is what we’re discussing here. Would you have Gazza and Bryan Robson in an all time Boro 11?

As a right sided midfielder Jones is better.

People are comparing them as right sided midfielders which is where they played for us.

As a player overall of course Stuani is better, but we largely wasted him here (granted he did a job).

Great to see you back newy. Here’s hoping it’s for a long stay!!🤗👍

The big difference between the teams is if we took the lead with the 2015 team you knew we weren’t going to lose but this team likes to make you sweat 🤣

Not sure about that.
AK was regularly criticised for sitting back and making it nervous by trying to hang on. Why didn't he go for it and kill games off, people asked?

MC's team do go for it, and that makes you sweat too?

It's almost as if it's the nature of the sport, not the tactics, that makes us sweat
