Carrick Annoyed......

Why do you have to have been a professional footballer to have a legitimate opinion on a game or player, I've watched us since 1967, I think I may have picked up a little knowledge in that time !
As fans we know nothing compared to those involved with the game. But the point is why are these fans making it difficult for us to implement this style of play because they think it’s not the right way to be playing? Ultimately they know nothing about football and are just making it more difficult for our own players to play at home

Burnley weren't really getting drawn onto Steffan last night. They were standing 30 or 40 meters off him, forcing him to go long.
A clever tactic sit back get 11 behind the ball marking their men dont close the keeeper and give steffen as much time in the world to try and pass to a marked player. If the opposition arent playing ball we need a varation in tatics

It wasn't the fans making it difficult for steffen but Burnleys tatic of sitting back

.... with a few of our fans tonight.

And I share his frustrations. We have a defined way to play the game. Build from the back, draw players on, make the space in midfield to beat the press. And it's been working effectively since October.
So when our fans are shouting for Staffan to..... well - I don't know what, just hoof it up field? it really annoyed me.

Steffan had the ball tonight and was drawing the attackers on to him and the crowd were going bonkers. Carrick turned to the west stand and gestured for everyone to calm down.
You pay your money and you can have any opinion you want, I get that. But it really frustrates me how little tactical appreciation some of our fans have.

And you can't even blame the 'part timers' since the west lower where I am is mainly season ticket holders.
Your right in what you say 1000%

But for as good as we have been ( very very good ) bar sheff United in the big games Carricks plan A has struggled and doesn’t seem to have a plan B

Stoke, Burnley home and away West Brom and Sunderland When we get pressed we don’t have an answer to it. And in the play offs that’s something we need to address

When our defenders/keeper gets the ball under pressure and are trying to play out, having thousands of our fans screaming at them to hoof it clearly makes it more difficult.

It must be like playing away from home every week

It's not great that Carrick is starting to get annoyed at some of our fans.

He's quite a calm guy, but he's made multiple comments about it now, some of our fans are acting daft this season.

It was especially baffling in the first half, with most of the game still to play, and abuse being hurled because the ball wasn't immediately hoofed.

I could maybe understand the angst if it was in the 88th minute and we were losing, but I think it's just creating a slightly unpleasant atmosphere at the ground right now.

I have not remotely been a fan of Steffen, but to criticise him for last night is very odd.
I don't think he is a good shot stopper and has let soft goals in. I've been concerned about his weakness in commanding his area on crosses. I also think he dallies too long and showboats.
HOWEVER, last night I thought he was physically much more imposing, coming to claim things confidently and aggressively.
I though he was intelligent with the ball and let down by the players immediately in front of him.
He didn't have a chance with either goal and didn't have a save to make.

He was one of the few players who looked impressive yesterday. I thought Carrick got his team wrong again leaving out Fry and Forss and got his substitutions wrong again.
Giles and Smith were targeted and were horrendous. Lenihan just persistently gave the ball away trying to play passes he is not good enough to play, and the midfield two were both off it. There wasn't much for Steffen to initiate with.

I am still trying to work out why Fry and Forss are not starting. If results were coming, or even we were playing ok I could get it, but they/we are not.

It's two blips in a row, let's hope that momentum doesn't build in the wrong direction. Fry must come back in.

Steffan is a liability and I apologize if that upsets some but that's the reality, he is far too clumsy on the ball, yes is has the occasional nice pass but he is also prone for too many mistakes, I just hope it doesn't happen when it really matters like a play off game.
Lumley was a liability.

You know nothing about football if you think Steffan is a liability. He is key to how we play and not many other keepers in the championship could fit into the system like he does

Good keepers make mistakes, especially at championship level. If you’re expecting us to sign a keeper that doesn’t then prepare to be disappointed for a long time to come

Fans at any club in the country would respond the same, its natural anxiety when the ball passed across your own box. I honestly dont think fans would react differently at man utd

The ball wasn't being passed around our box.

There was nothing to be anxious about.

Steffen had the ball and was trying to wait for the right pass to open up.

Idiots starting hurling abuse.

Happened repeatedly.

Mcnair and steffen were exchanging passes from goal kicks in the box

Gerraway man! We haven't lost a home game since Blackburn in mid October, our home record under Carrick is W8 D2 L1 with an aggregate score of 27-7. By all means debate the crowds reaction to the team but don't make nonsense up.

When we first started playing out from the back, I had my heart in my moth. I wasn't convinced AT ALL by Steffen but as the season has progressed, I can see the benefits and I love it! I'm hoping we can somehow hang on to ZS. I doubt we will find anybody as good. We've had a brilliant season, playing wonderful stuff - I can't for the life of me think why anybody would be questioning Carrick's tactics

It’s a bit ridiculous isn’t it but don’t underestimate how many of our fans won’t like Carrick’s intelligent and considered approach and would secretly (for now) like a ‘hard man’ in charge to shout loudly at the team if they don’t win every match and maybe throw a few cups around to show who’s boss. Oh and get that ball long onto somebody’s head…

Steffen was solid last night, not at fault for any of the Huddersfield goals......but a lot of fans minds are made up about him. He can play exactly how Carrick wants, and Carrick has come out in the press and said this multiple times. But selective deafness isn't an uncommon thing with footy fans.
Carricks tactics.....best football we have seen in years. On our day, we can batter 90% of the Championship - not bad to where we were headed in October. My only very slight criticism is if things are not going to plan we don't have "Plan B" or that he is reluctant to change things. Young manager still learning so has to be given some slack here.
Going to be a very interesting summer seeing "his" signings and what type of player he brings in👍

Steffen takes too long to find someone and often it came back to him….he takes too long and then the opposition hem us in and he’s under more pressure and has to go long
But it’s because he dilly dallies with the ball at his feet….he is his own worst enemy….
Rubbish!
