Carrick Annoyed......

.... with a few of our fans tonight.

And I share his frustrations. We have a defined way to play the game. Build from the back, draw players on, make the space in midfield to beat the press. And it's been working effectively since October.
So when our fans are shouting for Staffan to..... well - I don't know what, just hoof it up field? it really annoyed me.

Steffan had the ball tonight and was drawing the attackers on to him and the crowd were going bonkers. Carrick turned to the west stand and gestured for everyone to calm down.
You pay your money and you can have any opinion you want, I get that. But it really frustrates me how little tactical appreciation some of our fans have.

And you can't even blame the 'part timers' since the west lower where I am is mainly season ticket holders.

I didn’t notice that.. but he did seem a lot more animated than usual. Clearly angry about the hand ball offside goal and fustrwted with us conceding the 2nd

There wasn’t much in it though tbh

Yup. Guy next to me been on it all day - which I don’t think helped tonight’s atmosphere - kept shouting for him to hoof it. First time he did, what happens? It came straight back with them on the attack.

There was a dicey moment in the first half but we got out of it with a first time pass from Hackney but he still moaned. It’s the way we play.

There was a point in the first half where the fans went mental because Steffen kept the ball at his feet without passing.

There were zero passing options in front of him. Any there was were extremely high risk.

Fans kicking off for not passing. Fans kicking off for playing high risk passes from the back (in other periods of the game).

Some people are just ferking clueless. If you can’t understand and appreciate the way we play now (and the the results we’ve had off the back of that style). You need to pick a new hobby/sport. Clueless!

How many goals has Steffan cost us this season? I share the fans frustration!! If he wasn't so much of a liability then the fans wouldn't have to worry so much.
Go back and look at how many he's created. ..

And yes, "created". Draws out players, pops in a pass to a tight area, we spin out and suddenly we are onto their back line in 2/3 passes and have a great chance.

Staggered. The reward far outweighs the risk. It's why the best teams do it. And we are capable of doing it effectively at this level.

Not many really to be fair. I know he has a mistake in him, and I do actually feel sometimes that he is, or comes accross as a bit too relaxed. However, he's a top professional goalkeeper and an international one at that.
I would offer that he has started far more goal scoring moves than goals he has conceded because of the footballing philosophy that Carrick has us playing.

In theory that’s what he’s supposed to do but in reality he holds onto it for too long and causes panic between himself ,McNair and Darragh, the ball usually ends back at his feet ,he then punts a ball out wide where our players are usually out muscled and the ball is turned over anyway.

Steffan is a liability and I apologize if that upsets some but that's the reality, he is far too clumsy on the ball, yes is has the occasional nice pass but he is also prone for too many mistakes, I just hope it doesn't happen when it really matters like a play off game.

I think he gives the ball away FAR too much!! I get the whole playing out from the back but I just don't think Steffen is good enough for it.

I have tried to not get frustrated with Steffen this season but tonight he actually annoyed me, whenever the team felt like it was getting some momentum he would keep the ball at his feet until the momentum fizzled out.

I'm not saying I've never seen that happen, but certainly not to the extent which you seem to have experienced.
Like other replies have started, the good results from playing this way far outweigh the bad.
