Assombalonga going?

Over his career BA is a 1 in 3 striker (or as near as damn it)

The last two years he's been nowhere near that and clearly is not the player he was. It would be churlish to not take into account the managerial merry go round since he came and the style of football we have mostly played. Warnock is renowned for improving players, he gave him the captaincy, presumably he sees something in him that others can't/won't see.

Whether Warnock wants him to stay and sign a new contract none of us know, one thing for sure if he does stay he will not be on anywhere near the terms he is now. I personally think he'd be better moving on. He's been here a while and probably change of scenery will benefit him. He could score12 goals between now and the end of the season and some fans will never accept he's any good.

As I've said before though he can't be forced out until the end of the season, if he leaves in January it will only be because he has received an offer acceptable to him and he wants to go.

I think most fans would be over the moon if he scored another 12 before the end of the season, me included, i dont think its a question of whether hes any good more that he simply hasnt been good enough since he arrived and seems to get worse every season.

Not worth debating with you because you always see the downside of things, no matter what. I hope he plays and scores a couple today to shut you lot up !! I hope he scores a couple today.... If he doesn't will you shut up....just for once ?
He's not playing... Warnock is saving him !

Well it's been rather an unusual last 2 years hasn't it...playing in a struggling side Woodgate, Covid and Warnock.

I reckon Mo Salah would have struggled to score many more than that in our team.
the championships sub £15m strikers don't seem to be affected!

Let me ask you a question - who would score more goals if they played every game from now until the end of the season?
Britt, Akpom or Watmore?
Be honest.

Britt, no doubt at all. Makes the decision to freeze him out whilst we still have a chance of the playoffs even more baffling

Probably, but we would win more games with Fletcher or Watmore. The aimis to win as many games as you can not get a 20 goal top scorer.

Hope he doesn't say he can go now. Remember he made a mistake last season with Clayton. Told him he could go and then asked him back they day before he was flying off on holiday.

Fletcher currently isn’t fit and Watmore isn’t a CF. Much rather stick with Britt until the chance of the playoffs are gone.

What do you reckon to FLW suggestions?

Charlie Wyke

The former Boro man has been ripping up trees for near neighbours Sunderland of late and is by far one of League One’s most prolific marksmen this term.
Wyke originally came through the youth ranks at the Riverside and could well be open to returning to his former stomping ground this summer after making a name for himself elsewhere.
Given that the striker’s current deal expires in June, it is perhaps unsurprising that he has already been linked with a move back to his former club as speculation mounts.
The Black Cats will fight tooth and nail to keep their star man however the pull of a return home could well be too hard for Wyke to ignore in the long run.

Joe Pigott

A proven scorer at League One level with current club AFC Wimbledon, Pigott could well be keen to try his hand in the Championship this summer as he continues to thrive for the South London club.
A tall yet technically gifted forward, the 27-year-old would offer the same sort of hold up play that Assombalonga contributes and would also provide a good outlet if Warnock chooses to go direct.
The goals may have dried up for the ex-Charlton Athletic man of late however he has been showing his creative skills well and set up Ryan Longman for his first goal of the afternoon on Saturday against his former side.
Boro may well switch their attentions towards the Dons’ frontman if they decide to go in search of a low cost option that also provides good quality in front of goal.

The technically gifted Northern Irishman has been a revelation for Accrington Stanley this term and would be a great player for Boro to pick up with the future in mind.
Picked up from non league Southport, the 25-year-old has gone on to notch an impressive 17 goals in all competitions for his side and is likely to be a wanted man this summer.
