9 day quiz - FINAL RESULTS published - Otto42's favourite matches (mid 1970s to 2020)

Playoff semi - boro 3 vs 0 Brentford - stadium bouncing

27th November Boro 3 Huddersfield 0 - think it put us top of league temporarily, but the game had a real good feel about it under Mowbray

Millwall 3-0 - the borocelona game

watched the Brentford game in a pub in Thailand with a few other Boro fans - thought the result great . Brentford were poor on the night just thought other games from the period more exiting ..... looks like I am relegation bound again

Not the most memorable period. 4 managers if you include Venus.

im going for three games all in the 2014-15 season as we were on th eup

Middlesbrough 3 Brentford 0. Play off Semi 2nd leg

Middlesbrough 4 Brentford 0

Middlesbrough 4 Ipswich 1

Nothing sbout season with Strachan inspired. Mowbrays first full season started so well but drifted away. Karanka too over and we started to look a side again.

The home games all from 14/15

1. Has to be the play off second leg against Brentford.

2. The top of the table clash between Boro and Derby 2-0. George Friends second and his celebration.
3. Boro 4 Norwich 0.

1- May 2015 Boro Brentford 3-0 (play off semis was a cracking match and atmosphere)
2- March 2015 Boro Ipswich 4-1(I chose this as opposed to the earlier Norwich game as at the time Norwich were off the pace lower down league and crap, but Ipswich were still competitive when we played them)

3-Mar 2015 Boro Norwich 4-0 I couldnt come up with another highlight as I realised original choice was a season too early

may 2015 v Brentford 3-0 - crowd pushed the team on against a poor Brentford team
nov 2014 v Norwich 4-0 - pity we couldnt play like this in the final.... solid performance, grant on fire
sept 2010 v Burnley 2-1 - kink came on after 75mins ... we were 1-0 down - won 2-1 ... kink 2 goals

Just in from getting our bikes ready. As we are allowed out to exercise for an hour from 8pm tonight. I think my wife and I cannot ride the bikes close together. I think we are going to go for a 10-15 metre gap between us. Then see what the police say if they stop us.

I have the answer from Otto42. I am just starting to sorts out the scoring. Should be ready in 30 minutes all being well.

Round 3 is complete.

Here are the words from Otto42:

"A tricky section this one as I desperately wanted to find a game from the Mowbray era, him being a god to me as a youngster...most of our good wins under Mogga seemed to be away (Leeds in the league and Sunderland in the League Cup). However, in my third spot I have gone for a win v Sheffield Wednesday on a Friday night around November 2012 which put us top, there was also a rare big atmoshere as the club had a ticket offer which was well taken up. The top two have to come from Karanka's time....so in number 2 his first game against Bolton with the 'Karanka chiefs', with a late penalty winner and a miss from them. Top from this period though has to be the Brentford home play off game, we won comfortably on what should have been a nervy night. We had some other good home performances that year as well, big home wins against Norwich, Ipswich and Brentford again. A real shame we didn't go up that season in hindsight! So in reverse order

(3) 3-1 home win v Sheff Wed - Nov 2012
(2) 1-0 home win v Bolton - Oct 2013
(1) 3-0 home win Brentford - play off home semi final May 2015"

So here are results.

A late edit by Mr Moody's dog jumped him up the leaderboard.

Can you spot the correction in the results table? I have just seen that I had left the table with 12 rounds instead of 9.

Looks like there is everything to play for.

Next is round 2. Summer 1980 through to spring 1985. Maybe Erimus74 will like this round better?

As usual, answers in by 13:00 tomorrow (Sunday 3 May 2020).

Fairly sure I did put the Brentford game top Spanishman. I think my crap typing layout style has probably caused some confusion.

tactical voting .....

OK. I missed the update.

Well alanm. I have just been investigating and there was a bit of a drought of good results in that period.

We also went through a lot of managers - Jack Charlton, John Neal, Bobby Murdoch, Malcolm Allison then big Jack again with Willie Maddren.

Without really looking at your guesses I came up with my own. They match 100% with yours.

1. 4 October 1980 6-1 Norwich
2. 20 December 1980 4-1 Spurs
3. 6 September 1983 3-2 Newcastle

Another couple of matches just missed out:
19 August 1980 3-0 Leeds (always good to beat them)
7 Jan 1984 3-2 Arsenal in the FA Cup.

A win against Newcastle just pipped those 2 for 3rd place.

PS I had just finished university and started work in London in the summer of 1980. Feels like a long time ago now.

4th October 1980 - Boro 6 Norwich 1, MOTD cameras were there to witness Boro on a very good day, we actually misssed as many chances as we scored, with goals by Tony McAndrew, Bosco getting a brace, Davey Armstrong, Craig Johnston & an OG, 12,958 at the game

7th January 1984 - FAC 3rd round, giant killing at its best at home to Arsenal, with goals from Gary Macdonald, MOTM Paul Sugrue & goal to win any match when Mick Baxter thudded a header in to the roof of the net, holgate end, from a Sugrue corner

6th September 1983 - Unbeaten Boro faced Newcastle at Ayresome Park for our 1st night match of the season, against our star studded opponents was one ex Boro favourite David Mills, following his transfer from Sheff Weds
The match played in an electric atmosphere as the game was played, end to end, Boro took the lead when Dave Currie put us one up, Newcastle equalised, Dave Currie out us 2-1 up, David Mills equalised, with minutes remaining sub Gary Hamilton, playing his 1st game of the season, ran in to the box & steered a ball in to far corner of the net, holgate end, keeping the points on Teesside for an emphatic victory
