9 day quiz - FINAL RESULTS published - Otto42's favourite matches (mid 1970s to 2020)

My list

1 Aug 1992 Boro v Leeds 4-1 - was a wow moment for me at least, honestly thought we had a team that would establish itself in top flight, then Falconer got imjured and it all fell apart

2 Apr 1995 Boro v Luton 2-1 - wasn't really a great game of football, bit it was a great occassion. I was in Luton end as I had attended lots of games travelling back from Keele Uni, but only way I could get a ticket for this one was through my mate from Luton. I was keeping quiet, thinking don't want any trouble on last Ayresome game, until Boro scored and realised loads of other Boro fans had resorted to same method as me! Luton fan next to me wth his young son was awestruck and kept telling the little lad 'this is what a proper club is like'.

3 Aug 1994 Boro v Burnley 2-0 - was actually one of the few games I missed that season, but was sat on San Bernadino station using all of my change to ring my dad every 15 mins for updates. Was a great day - the Boro felt like they had arrived and we even got a mention in USA Today the next day.

I love this quiz, just wish he started going in1973 when I could be all nostagia over that season (y)

30th April 1995 - Boro 2 Luton 1 Nothing to say really
19th August 1992 - Boro's 1st ever home PL fixture Boro 2 Man City 0
22nd August 1992 - Boro 4 Leeeds 1 when we totally battered the then 1st division champions, John Hendrie was awesome that day, even Tommy Wright looked the part

30 April 1995. Boro 2 v 1 Luton, What a day, happy, sad, every emotion, good and bad. As I walked away and had one last look back, It was like saying goodbye to a loved one. I still miss AP to this day. I have spent more time at the Riverside now, but it has never evoked the same passions AP did for some reason, maybe its an age thing.

22 Aug 1992. Boro 4 v 1 Leeds. My mate is a Leeds fan and I made a special journey to enrol him and his lad in the membership scheme that was running at the time so they could sit with us. Oh the joy, the satisfaction of that game was heightened as all the pre match banter had played out in the car on the journey up. Going home I drove slowly :D. Special mentions for Wright, Hendrie Wilkinson, but a superb display from Ian Ironside In goal. A fantastic all round team performance. Cantona....... who are ya.

19 Aug 1992 Boro 2 v 0 Man City. First home game in the inaugural Premier league. A proud moment at that time. Evening games were always special at AP. Boro were back it felt really special. We had lost our opening game and needed to get some points on the board. A quick fire double from Bernie settled the nerves It helped Quinn getting sent off soon after though but I thought, yes, we will be fine In this league. (Sadly, the now infamous Boro post Christmas slump was to rear its ugly head)
Great minds coluka & a good write up (y)

Boro 4 - 1 Leeds. Absolutely smashed the champions. Feel good factor after that was immense

Boro 2 - 1 Luton - last game Ayresome park

Boro 3 - Blackburn 2 - same season, hendrie hattrick. I remember I couldn’t wait to watch it again in MOTD

GazC, I put your No3 & changed my mind, John Hendrie hat trick was our 1st ever PL hattrick 👍

Day 2 results are ready now. Please god they are right this time.

We start with the words of Otto42:

"This has proved harder than I thought, there were certainly some interesting and exciting games during this time. Looking back I could have picked the Johnny Hendrie wonder goal game, also interesting ifirc as it was the first time Brucie had returned, either of the Man City cup games from Lennie's first season and a couple of cracking performances in early 93/94 season (Derby and Sunderland). Also a few good ones in Robbo's first season (Burnley and Wolves spring to mind). However here goes in reverse order....

(3) A bit leftfield...Bristol City at home towards the end of Todd's season for the moment alone where Parky handles s Bristol City shot on our line, they all appeal for a penalty and Ripley takes the ball up the other end to score the winner.
(2) 4-1 won at home to League Champions Leeds (including Cantona). Tommy Wright looked a world beater, this premier league as was going to be easy!
(1) Favourite has to be the emotional last game win v Luton. Great atmosphere and a crucial game. The emotion when Hendrie got the winner. I can still see Degsy White pulling it back to him. Great stuff!"

I have managed to find a youtube video of the highlights of the match:

Now for the results table. Everyone scored pretty well on this round. Also, as you can see we welcome back GazC_MFC.

As usual, answers in by 13:00 UK time tomorrow (2 May 2020) please.

This one I'll gel null points

The Bristol City game mentioned it was also a last minute winner & the ball just trickled over the line, I would never have gueseed that if I had 30 choices

Cant he pretend he went in 1973 so I can remanice ;)

2. 3-0 Brentford 2015
3. 1-0 Bolton 2013.

This is hard & out of my comfort zone, out of the 70's & when looking for games that Otto would chose, but here goes, the 1st one was easy for me, the other 2 I looked & looked

1st - 15th May 2015 Boro 3 Brentford 0 playoff semi final 2nd leg, a quality goal from Tomlin to put the mighty Boro 1-0 up on the night & 3-1 on aggregate, then we relaxed & further goals from Kike, excellent finish & Adomah rounding the evening off with the 3rd to make the final aggregate score 5-1 & the exstatic crowd of 33,266 were singing long into the night of going to wemberley

2nd - 26th December 2011 Boro 1 Hull 0 with nothing seperating both teams in this top of the championship fixture & with the clock ticking close to 90 minutes Barry Robson collected the ball received the ball on the left, cut inside & from what seemed an impossible angle smashed the ball in to the top left hand corner of Hull net to break the deadlock & 3 points, taking Boro to 3rd place, joint 2nd & 2 points behind leaders Southampton, the 27,794 boxing day crowd were bouncing

3rd - 4th November 2014 Boro 4 Norwich 0
Tgis result put the Boro joint top with Bournemouth when thrashing Norwich 4-0, with goals by Bamford, a brace from Leadbitter, his 2nd being a penalty & to round off the evening Wildschut grabbing the 4th

Sorry about this but i was going to do exactly the same as Erimus74. He beat me too it. So, the same as Erimus . Brentford play off 1st

That boxing day Barry Robson late goal was awesome v Hull to be second

The 4-0 Norwich was a superb outcome but i do think lady luck was with us, as Norwich were not that bad on the day and it was a result that flattered us a little but the importance was immense so gets 3rd
