From the outside looking in we are an absolute shambles

My issue with this deal is why we have seemingly allowed Tav to go before we've brought in another CM (if this is the case).
If the Tav money has been earmarked for new players, including 3 prem players, then playing Tav and getting an injury means the plan goes down the pan. Better to get him out and get on with it, if that is the way this is going.

Oh yes he did - scroll forward to 4 minutes 15 of this
The key to the comment is we WANT to smash the league, not we're GOING to smash the league as has often been reported.

There is nothing wrong with having that ambition, there's plenty wrong with claiming it will happen, luckily he never claimed that. Gibson certainly made enough money available to "Smash the league", it was just badly spent.

EDIT: I've just read further down the thread and others beat me to it.

Have faith, I did not want Tav to leave , And wish him well at AFCB
I believe we will sign some cracking players in the next few weeks, mostly off the radar like Hoppe , let's chill out and enjoy the ride.
We all want Gyokores / Riss / etc , but really , I want us to find those type of players .before other clubs. They are out there, the next few weeks will see if we have found them. I know we will have, it all depends on the people who decide which ones we go for, over to CW, KS, SG.
Hoppe and Forss were not in my top ten , so what do I know.
Never heard of Hoppe, I wanted us to go for Forss in January when he went to Hull

Buy Riley Mcgree for 3m
Sell Marcus Tavernier for 12m
Doesn't seem that much of a shambles to me.
None of us know the ins and outs of our finances but I trust our owner to do what is right for our club as always.

Thats because McGree is less than a quater of the player Tav is/was and I am not one of those who thinks Tav is the be and end all of Boro. I just think McGree is pretyy average so far.

**** me, the absolute state of this thread with more than a month of the transfer window left to go!
Every single signing so far has significantly improved our starting line up or bench. We are losing one midfielder, decent though he was, and some fans are writing off the season, ******* their pants and talking about Wilder walking out! 😂

I KNOW 😵‍💫 read what i said, as admin clearly didn’t 😵‍💫

I think they're both pretty average but McGree needs time settle in. He hasn't had a full season yet.
McGree looks like he may be more of a threat offensively, but he won’t do the graft and defensive cover that Tav does. He has had a couple of shockers too so the jury is out on him so far I’d say. Make no mistake Tav will be a big loss to the team as a whole

Its lack of numbers we have only 14 or so pros so we need to sign at least 5 or 6 yes we have money but we are exceedingly slow at getting people through the door

That’s a fair point, but I’ve faith that we’ll get those numbers through the door over the next month, and I take comfort in the fact we have brought in quality so far, for very little outlay. I’m glad we haven’t been panic buying any old rubbish just to make up the numbers. I suppose that could still happen the closer we get to deadline, but the indications are we are going for the quality, not quantity, approach so far. Patience required

Because that's an enormous amount in the championship I don't want us to spend 15 m on a single striker and be stuck with the next britt
Your claim was that we won't spend a 1/4 of the circa 42m that we will have FFP headroom. Not that will we shouldn't spend big on 1 player.

Yes spending more than 10m in total is a lot for a champ side (without or without payments). But, the side has been chronically under invested in for some time. The idea that we will sell two players for 27m, and barely spend anything is a sure fire way to a depressing future.

Gibson has always made money available, and I don't think he will say, less than £10m CW, that's your lot, because it would be totally out of character with what he has done for 30 years now.
Maybe he won't allow a 12m striker, but he might allow 3x 7m strikers.

We spent 7.5m in total last season without any sales income, so we will clearly spend more than 10m

We have been, but I want us to get the right players, not get the wrong ones quickly.

I get that games start on saturday and that we don't want to drop behind, but at the same time, it's a long season. There isn't much as fans we can do but trust them to get it right
