Southgate about to pick the wrong side - again

Would not play Stones. He is always capable of a **** up, especially when we try this “playing out from the back” that Pep has made fashionable. Get Conor Coady in there, a no nonsense centre half, who can talk and organise the defence.

Stones has been brilliant the second half of last season though. Can’t not play him really, especially given the alternatives.

These sort of posts always make me laugh, how boring would the message board be if we were all just typing 'Come on England!'

And would it make any difference if we were all positive on a message board that none of the players are ever going to read?!

Its a message board with different opinions and some passionate views, we're never all gonna agree.

Rob, this is a football website for debating and I’m merely stating what I see based on the subtle messages delivered by Southgate and his management team.

True be told though I genuinely like Southgate but simultaneously don’t rate him as the England manager but sincerely hope I’m proven completely wrong

I’d pick rashford (for the record) as well because pace hurts teams and grealish offers trickery.
Pace trickery and keeping the ball whilst moving it quickly hurts teams. Bellingham will move it around quickly as he’s that talented
Sincerely hope our management team think the same and place excellent players on the bench because players offering something others can’t ought to start if we have any real chance in this tournament

you really need to check his record out against his predecessors because you would struggle to find 2 with a better record.

I really dont understand the hate or why people dont have faith in him. International football is the most competitive as its gonna get. He gave us a great hope in the last tournament but we got beat by a better team. Hes done so much for england in future proofing our first team where other managers havent give kids a look in.

We have had all sorts but this man gives a ****. His record is good, give him a chance.
 
Southgate has the 5th best record of all England managers for gpg. He has the 4th best for percentage wins and has the second best tournament record after alf Ramsey.

Some people talk a load of old tosh because they don't like him.

Or playing a player because you know his quality and believe this will come through, same situation as shearer in 96 who hadn't scored for two years for England but Venables told him he would start in the first game, and what happened then?
It is a game of opinions, I don't rate maguire at all think he flatters to deceive especially when he has the ball at his feet, hope England do well and Southgate has said the semi's is a good tournement, I suspect when we meet decent opposition we will lose, as usual.

His record alone is as good as any in recent times, but more importantly he's reinvigorated what it means for English players to represent their country.

I think it's hard to argue with what he's achieved so far - the only small criticism is that he hasn't really managed to tactically affect games once we've gone behind.

So what are you proposing, that no one should give an opinion on the team before the game?

I haven't even predicted the outcome I just said that I wouldn't pick Sterling based on current form.

I don't just like Southgate, I love him after his time here as player and magnificent captain.
It doesn't stop me thinking he is a very cautious/negative manager who freezes when it matters.
But I sincerely hope he proves me completely wrong and gets the best out of some very talented players.
I think we are weak in goal, and at centre back. I just hope he gets the selection of the forward players right.

Same thoughts. He's terrified of losing, just let the players off the leash.
