Southgate about to pick the wrong side - again

Grealish offers England something no other player can offer.
carries the ball with ease and draws fouls in dangerous areas or finds a dangerous pass.

Can't really agree that none of Foden, Mount, Sterling, Kane, etc draw fouls or find dangerous passes.

I quite like Grealish and would probably start him if it was up to me but posts like this are going a bit overboard.

Pretty much every journalist I've heard this week seems to think Sterling will start over Grealish. I can see Southgates thinking that we'll have less threat over the top with Grealish and Foden playing but Sterling has been awful for months now.

What happened to picking players on form?
Surely you dont just pick every attacking midfielder we have just because they are all on form, you have to have some balance.

Yeah of course you do, I didn't say you don't need balance. Infact I actually said I can see the thinking that we might need some pace over the top.

Sterling isn't the only player with pace though is he?

I guess we kind of agree then👍🏻

I think forcing grealish, mount and foden could have the same effect of Scholes gerard and lampard.

The problem being rashford, sterling sancho all look a little off form but I would persist with one.

Has he picked it yet?
How can Southgate be getting called out before picking or playing the first match?
Isn't that jumping the gun?
It's the teesside way, pessimism always comes before optimism, it's what you get when you follow the Boro.⚽😀.
I would love it,love it if Southgate won the tournament.🏆🏆🏆
( But not in place of promotion next year.⚽⚽⚽)

Jude Bellingham looked sublime for Dortmund in Europe.

He is only 17.

I think Southgate is out of his depth.
Too many changes doesnt appear to know his starting x11. 5 at the bsck against Croatia I think he will play for a point....dangerous at the sweaties will be bang up for beating us on 18th. They have half the crowd at Wembley and a decent starting x11.

I thought the Scots had 2500 tickets.

I said weeks ago that Sterling will start against Croatia. It is really disappointing that Grealish looks to the one to miss out on a starting position. However, with 5 subs available it's probably best to start thinking of the game the way Eddie Jones does with the England rugby union side. Those on the bench are often the most important and can completely change the flow of a game.

Who better to bring on to change the flow, keep up the pressure or enable more control? Grealish certainly has the ability to do all of that.

I love watching Grealish play. He's one of the first three on my team sheet, but I think we're getting a bit carried away here. As mentioned, we've got a wonderfully creative player in Foden who should play on the left who will come inside and look to play with Mount and Rice. We don't really need Grealish to do the same from the right, especially as Kane seems to drop a little as well these days. We need pace to compliment this. Sterling has been really poor and will be lucky to get the nod, but he's done very well in the past for England. If he was going to leave Grealish out, I'd have Rashford ahead of Sterling too!

If he has a stinker, I think it'll be the last time he starts in this tournament.

I will be more disappointed if we play 3 at the back. Croatia will likely play 1 up top. Let's control the midfield and get at them.

Really like that side other walker (I think he always has a clanger in his locker) and would pick Reece James
Nothing to choose between Shaw and chillwell
Agree though, white took his chance and deserves to play ahead of the wooden ; mings and coady
Southgate and his assistant are just not suited to the role
It’s too big for him
Worry is we limp to the round of 16 and are deemed unlucky when we go out and the FA are taken in by Southgates eloquent explanation of his failure and keep him for Quatar and more failure
There's a lot to choose between Shaw and Chilwell for me, I'd pick Chilwell every time.

I think I'd like to go on record now as saying, if we should win this tournament, it will be despite Southgate, not because of him.

It will not be because he has consistently given youth a chance over more experienced players during his tenure, thus producing a squad rich in international experience while retaining its youth.
It will not be because he has fostered the best team spirit in the England camp in at least 25 years.
it will not be due to his eloquent but passionate leadership of the England camp.

He will clearly have been the beneficiary of outrageous good fortune; the blunderer who happened to be in the right place at the right time. I know this because he lost a cup match against Cardiff 13 years ago.

I see what you are doing there.....

I’m sure he will stick with experience for the opener its a toughie afterall. Managers get nervous and they mainly rely on the ones they trust rather than be brave. I would have Grealish, Foden and Sterling supporting Kane personally but i worry Sir Gareth will go (assuming Maguire is injured)

……………….Pickford

……… Walker Stones Mings
James…………………………Shaw

Mount……….Rice………..Sterling

……Rashford
…………………Kane

I’d prefer this team, be attacking from the off but with Phillips and Rice to protect the defence and give the ball to Grealish to do his thing

…………………………..Henderson

James……….. Stones…………….White……….Chilwell

……….……Rice………………………..Phillips…………

…………………………Grealish (free role)………………

………Foden……………Kane………….Sterling

CB is where we will eventually come unstuck as we lack quality even if Maguire was fit

If he starts Sterling it just proves Southgate hadn't got the balls to be an international manager, picking players on reputation alone.
Careful. You will be accused of having an agenda posting things like this.

I can only assume Sterling has impressed enough in training to find himself pushed into the starting XI, as he's been lacklustre for England since the Euro qualifiers, has about 4 players playing much better than him and we have looked a much better side and the past year or so when he's not playing
