Disabled supporters assistants made to use black season card

I have asked a senior Middlesbrough official face to face and this is totally untrue. The disabled season card is a season card. The assistant's card is an access card, it is not a season card but it is not black.
Sounds like a X/twitter urban myth.
Secondly this process has all been carried out with the approval of Level Playing Fields the body that campaigns on behalf of disabled sports fans.
Middlesbrough have a Disabled Liaison Officer, (with a PA) she herself has disabilities and brings that very real experience, knowledge and understanding to the role. There have been many subtle changes behind the scenes thanks to Rosemary the DLO, subtle to us but game changers to wheelchair users etc.
But the black card is completely untrue and is the kind of myth that could be very upsetting to disabled fans. So lets knock it on the head right now.
Rob I take exception to you calling me a liar especially while you are spreading lies fed to you by MFC.
As for people saying it’s not the disabled supporter who has the card. The fact that their PA has the black card is enough to identify that the person they are with has a disability and as others have said that can be very upsetting to that person.
I do hope you can find it in yourself to apologize Rob and not just spout it’s not a season card and it’s only a bit black.

Or is this a piece of triangulation by the club to say “this a why we need digital ticketing”….

Trump use to say crazy stuff to detract from the real issue. People can see right through this.

If you go through a turnstile and you’re on junior or a helper card the light flashes amber. Just get the amber tickets checked.

Why on earth, do you need a different coloured card?

OK so this black and white card is issued to the Helpers, therefore at no point is a disabled supporter "identified" by being issued with a different card. The different cards identify the "able bodied" helpers. You could "almost" say it is a badge of honour you are there helping someone do what they want to do. A positive thing Shirley?

So can someone tell me what the issue is?
You don't think they'll be stood next to each other?

That is a dark blue like the new passports.

Is this even DDA compliant ( or whatever it’s new name is)

That would be my issue.
Technically it's not discriminating against the disabled person as they have a normal ticket/season card. But it identifies the helper.

Why change colour - who knows.

Sounds like - once again - it's simply p*ss poor communication from the club. Sure if they rolled it out and explained the reasoning most people would get it. But when it's done, no explanation** then that's when the Chinese whispers kick in.

** if it has been fully explained apologies.

Sounds like these 'helpers' have been helping themselves to games without their pals.. reaping all the benefits of a season ticket holder.. by being given a free season ticket.

Now the free season ticket has been replaced with an access card.. meaning they don't get all the benefits that a fully paid up season ticket holder would get.

To differentiate the access card and the season card it has been made black and white.. presumably the simplest and most straight forward way to differentiate between the cards and being better for colour blind or partially sighted folks to get to grips with.

HOWEVER!! things are going pretty well with the club and us fans love a pish and moan.. social media will have blown this up out of proportion and now the club are like the nazis making fans wear different colours or patches to differentiate folks dependant on their differences.

Most importantly.. BLACK AND WHITE.. out of all the colours.. NEWCASTLE CARDS.. that's what it is.. FLIPPING MAGPIE CARDS!! GEORDIE CARDS FOR HELPERS!!

I remember some folks kicking off when we dared introduces black and white training gear.. lol.. but also.. GREAT POINT!

You're owed an apology 100% and thank you for raising this.

It's quite disgusting the club would try to gaslight (via Rob) to try and dismiss the genuine concern around this matter.

This thread goes to show that those of us who don’t have the worries others do, clearly don’t always understand what those issues are…

It’s taught me something about this issue and while I may have an opinion on it it doesn’t mean I should be dismissive of those who are being affected by it…

I will say one thing though… this issue is clearly being amplified by the actions of a minority who are exploiting the clubs goodwill of providing the assistance card for their own gain and necessitating (albieit an I’ll thought out) changes to over come those actions…

Sometimes football fans really do need to look at their selfish actions and self entitlements and decide if they’re the problem not the victim..

Or the issue is being downplayed by people who are lucky enough to be oblivious of the impact this could be having on potentially vulnerable people. Ignorance is bliss sometimes.

There are a number of different coloured Season Cards so why would another one cause any significant problem for the users (other than the Geordie connotation)?

What is the problem that needs solving? If red and white carer cards were issued wouldn't the fact the stewards needed to be involved to let them in still draw the same level of attention?

I'm not suggesting people aren't being made anxious by this but do they know that there isn't a uniform colour anyway?

There is the Red & White standard card. There is a Blue & White one (which I had until a couple of season's ago when it started to break). There is also the fully gold card.

Other than occasionally catching sight of someone in the beer queue handing a card over (and not ever really registering it) I don't think I have any idea what cards (or tickets) people are using.

Additionally, my current card actually looks like this:

Muttley irregardless if whether it's the helper or the disabled person with the card it's an identifiable difference. Having to explain to someone you are a carer for why they are being treated differently is hard. It's not a badge of honour. That implies folk want thanking for being a carer. A bit of a silly comment that to be honest.

This really is something only those who live it could understand. I'm not going to cite other examples of discrimination because folk will say it's different in this example. But imagine any other protected category being given a different colour card to enter the stadium.

I can see why they've done it.. and I can see why there would be a problem.

I mean, there is a problem here, but i'm not sure the nazi comparisons are quite necessary. Lets be sensible.
It's Newy. Likes to jazz things up a little. No problem when it's team sheets including random players from the South American lower leagues, but crass and insensitive when it's to do with the Holocaust

These cards are being used to identify people because of a personal characteristic. That's probably illegal to be honest.
