Disabled supporters assistants made to use black season card

Disabled supporters have been issued with a black season card. This now says to anyone watching them enter the ground that they are with someone disabled. Some disabled people don't like others to know they have a disability now MFC are visibly tagging them with this black card. How is this even legal. What's next will they have to carry bell and keep ringing it?

I will investigate this for you. But the football club are taking advice from Level Playing Field - the body that represents sports fans with disabilities.

Is it the supporter who has the black card, or is it the supporters assistant who has been issued with a free ticket that has the black card?

If its the assistant then it may be to signify that they should not be entering alone.

I have asked a senior Middlesbrough official face to face and this is totally untrue. The disabled season card is a season card. The assistant's card is an access card, it is not a season card but it is not black.
Sounds like a X/twitter urban myth.
Secondly this process has all been carried out with the approval of Level Playing Fields the body that campaigns on behalf of disabled sports fans.
Middlesbrough have a Disabled Liaison Officer, (with a PA) she herself has disabilities and brings that very real experience, knowledge and understanding to the role. There have been many subtle changes behind the scenes thanks to Rosemary the DLO, subtle to us but game changers to wheelchair users etc.
But the black card is completely untrue and is the kind of myth that could be very upsetting to disabled fans. So lets knock it on the head right now.

Well said Rob, its a shockingly awful way to go on isn't it. I know there seems to be quite a lot of hatred and vitriol toward Gibson and Middlesbrough FC from quite a few stirring it up at the moment. I cant see it stopping from a certain sector. Reminds me of 81 to 85.

OK. Here is a disabled carer's access card. Yes it is black and white to distinguish it from a red season card. But this is for the helper and not the disabled person.
Once again it is not a season card. It is a free access card and it is not for the disabled fan it is for their personal helper.

Lol

"Totally untrue"

"well its a bit black"

So someone with a disability who is accompanied by someone to allow them to attend a match is singled out by their helper having a visibly different card? Might as well give the person with disabilities a different card as well. Maybe they could wear a sign or something? I can’t believe that Level Playing Field are on board with this? My son has a kids card and it’s identical to an adults card, so I don’t know why the access card has to be a visibly different colour. Are there really that many pretending to have a disability, so that they and their mate get in 2-for-1, meaning that this is actually needed.

Because it isnt a season card. It is a free pass to enter as a helper.

Maybe think of it as a different colour in the way that the seats in the director’s box are a different colour. It’s important some people are kept separate, isn’t it? You can’t expect someone helping a disabled supporter to have the same coloured card as them in the same way you can’t expect the chairman and his closest associates to sit on an old, faded seat like the rest of us.

Know your place.

Honestly what is going on with the public relations at the club?

Digital cards announced 4 days before the season, the form to opt out of digital ticketing telling you can buy a smart phone for a £35, a mistake on being charged a free to transfer a ticket, not delaying the kick off show h Millwall with many outside with queue reaching the bridge before kick off and a black season card for helpers.

Have we a work experience kid from school running the public relations and the communications.

Even for a helper this must be against some discrimination law.

If it is not broke don’t fix it.

A disastrous start to the season on and off the pitch.

Rob, someone who’s feeding you info from the club must be having a laugh at your expense. Is it Ant and Dec?

“Tell them the card isn’t even a little bit black…”
