Wilder sacked

I did try and tell you all.
Yep, Gibson doesn't strike me as a man who acts upon rumours without concrete evidence. Seems to be a stickler for loyality too. Didn't he bin off Monk because Monk had had an in depth 'chat' about another job?

But things haven't been the same since the Burnley fiasco.

It says a player who he wanted rid of doesn't like him. It doesn't say it all. It says the blindingly obvious.

All managers get rid of players. I'd expect most players to understand that and not be put out by it. But there's a way to go about doing it without being a pr*ck isn't there?

Telling Uche and Akpom they can't train with the team in the summer, can't have shirt numbers, can't go on the training camp trip, etc. It's counter productive.

With Akpom we look like complete idiots cause we've ended up playing him. Predictably he's broken down after a few games. Maybe I'm forgetting something but I don't remember any really bad fouls on him in the Sheff Utd match. I suspect he's been missing the last few months because we pushed him too hard without conditioning him first.

But even with Uche. Fair enough the club or manager might not want that player any more - but he's going to be knocking around at other Championship/League 1 teams and we may well be after one of his teammates at some point. We shouldn't be sending players away embittered, we want them saying positive things about the club. It's hard enough for us signing players as it is.

Liked a lot of comments on this thread. It's a bittersweet moment. Last November/December I really thought we were getting somewhere. And then the wins vs Utd and Spurs were sensational. The sort of results where non boro supporting mates are txting me crowing about us.

But then this season he's been all over the shop. Criticising and dropping Fry for clearing the ball instead of playing out. Criticising and dropping Dijksteel for not getting enough yellow cards. Saying he doesn't understand the expectation level after going 3 down in the first half at home. Dropping both wingbacks cause they need a rest after 2 weeks without a match. The guys been acting like an idiot.

Let’s be honest it hasn’t been right since Preston that was a horror show and we’ve never recovered.

I posted this on wilder rumour thread -

My biggest worry with wilder is the fact there are no academy players on his bench ( rarely if ever) and this flies in the face of what we all know the clubs philosophy is based on. Look at howson new role to see that.

I can’t for one minute think Steve Gibson Is happy with this given the time and money we have ploughed into our academy to see largely sidelined at senior level.

It just appears on the outside to be a complete clash of ideologies.

It was a really disappointing match no doubt but honestly no I didn't see that as any sort of "point of no return". To me that was a bit like the playoff final for Karanka pr the UEFA final for McLaren. An all or nothing moment where the players knew the spotlight was on and perhaps a few bottled it. And then compounded by needing to throw the kitchen sink at it and leave gaps.

Even the first half dozen matches this season I genuinely thought we were playing well and the results would eventually come. That was the point Wilder should have been supporting the players and building them up. Not slandering them.

What a mess. Neither our defense or midfield could play Wilder’s system and he seemed incapable of evolving.

His way of playing was quite revolutionary but he got found out in his second season in the Premier League. Maybe it’s common knowledge how to defeat Wilder Ball within the game now.

God help whoever comes in, unless we get some pace into that midfield we’re going nowhere.

It had to happen things were falling apart and he lacked humility. I won't miss his pre match interviews rambling away for hours it seemed going nowhere. Lucky we have Leo to steady the ship for the next manager.

I think the adage that Gibson gives his managers ample time to get it right hasn’t been true for a few years now. He seems a bit less patient these days and he’ll also be carrying a few bruises from previous bad experiences with managers.

And of course he’s got older, but what we want to know is: has he got any wiser?

Just woke up to the news. You'd have to say that the club statement makes it seem like he's been "sacked" sacked not just the usual parting of the ways with mutual consent style dismissal for football related performance. So must've been something going on to **** Gibbo off.

Where do you start with this?

Dissloyalty……SG may have given him the benefit of the doubt, but ultimately unforgivable.
Like too many managers he’s is own biggest fan.
”A bad workman always blames his tools” isn’t a saying for nothing
Results, no point going there apart from a couple of FA cup games.

The throw a curved ball in the final nail in the coffin could have been, like me, SG watching Brighton‘s performance at Anfield on Match of the Day and thinking “WTF happened here”!!

Wonder if the club will still be forging ahead with the list of changes Wilder demanded because he 'knows what good looks like', never slated him while in post as am an eternal optimist when it comes to boro, but he really was an arrogant bloke. Glad he is gone in hindsight.

"Attitude over abiliteh" almost as stupid as Gibson's smash the league sound bite

I will give one back for wilder

Self interest over loyalty

You don't fuçk with Steve Gibson

It wasn’t a happy ship

Do you now accept those of us expressing concerns might just have had a point and that despite his comments all wasn’t rosy after all

Well it’s not rocket science, is it? We expected to be challenging for a top 6 place and we are bottom 3.
Please don’t confuse not wetting our pants and calling for the manager’s dismissal at every single Internet rumour for the past 6 months with not thinking that there were problems… The main problems being on the pitch. Whether it became a self fulfilling prophecy, the problems behind the scenes, who knows? Maybe problems behind the scenes led to the results, or maybe the results led to problems behind the scenes? Doesn’t really matter anymore. I’m sure stuff will come out now, and I’ll continue to take it with a pinch of salt unless it’s something tangible from someone credible.
Either way, nobody is going to pat you on the back and say ‘well done for figuring out there were problems. Wish I’d listened to you’ for saying there are problems when we are sitting in the relegation zone. It’s stating the bleeding obvious.
