Why do we go from looking like contenders to like a pub team so quickly

The reason being is that despite the fact wilder is a complete **** he called out the poor transfer buisness and recruitment team, warnock said he desperately wanted archer and we lost out to Preston. Carrick is a far better gaffer and person than wilder who ultimately caused himself to be sacked but the problem is if carricks not backed he’ll walk, he doesn’t have the backing of an owner who seems simply unwilling to spend any money and just wants to be a second tier outfit. You should have the makeup of your squad by week one look at Southampton last night pretty much every side does, we don’t have a recognised striker Chuba is a number ten. Players like crooks, jones mcnair are simply not promotion material, and are passengers, jones potentially is good back up at best. We had all the foundations of success with a brilliant manager and it looks like we’re ******* it away, Gibson has been pretty **** poor for the better part of a decade and half now.

Key players out injured and very good loan players not replaced. Yet ?
I thought pre season was odd as well. The friendlies right near the start seemed more like early pre season kick abouts not matches where the team were getting properly tuned up.

No Howson no Chuba. No Archer No Ramsey and no Giles. Half the team missing and the best half. No team could cope with that.
2 will come back in but we desperately need quality ro replace the other 3.
On the plus side it looks like we have got a good goalie. On the negative side I can't see us getting replacements as good as the other 3.
There may be trouble ahead.

It’s the same with most Championship sides.

Club policy is to see how the manager is doing in October/November and then, if we’re nowhere near the playoffs, sack them and bring in someone new.

Based on the last 13 seasons, we’d be almost 50% likely to do that this season. Although I don’t actually think we will. Things can turn very quickly in football and Carrick does need a good run of results soon. I know it’s only one match but we really needed to avoid defeat today.

2 wins in our last 11 and winless in 6, we need an injection of hope from somewhere.

I said it the other day, when it comes to loans, with the likes of Man City, Man Utd, Liverpool, Chelsea, Arsenal, Tottenham, Newcastle, etc etc having great young players, since when did Aston Villa become the only club with decent loan players available? Add to that Michael Carrick one of the most respected men in football and some of the best football played in the league……WTF is there to get hysterical about over an opening day defeat to a very good Millwall side.

The present squad is worse than the one from last season, even if chuba and howson were in the starting lineup. However, when we got promoted last we drew to Preston away 0-0 on the opening day and people were wetting the bed then too. There's still a month of the window left to go. The club need to act sooner rather than later with recruitment though. Because leaving it too late like usual isn't good enough.

They are not missing though they are gone we need to stop thinking like this as though they are out injured the fact is we no longer have them and we need to makeup the gap somehow.
When comparing last season’s team to this, I think he is fine saying they are missing 🤷‍♂️

We have started the season without a striker. How on earth are we planning on getting promoted?

No doubt we'll panic buy and rush someone in throught the door at the last minute, but I can't see them being proven.

Because we loan in our quality players from the Premier League, and their window is open until the end of August so they’re not doing business yet.

Bit of a nightmare because you’re starting from scratch again every summer by losing three players who make the difference between you being a midtable pub team and top Champo side. Particularly from last season where the loan players were class. Plus, our two best players that we own - Chuba and Howson - out inured.

Is what it is, but it’s so frustrating every year to see us make such a half baked start. Last 4 years at least we’ve thrown away 8-10 points in August, then cried that we missed out on promotion by 8-10 points.
