Why do we go from looking like contenders to like a pub team so quickly

Pub team?..... Slightly dramatic 😂

It's an opening day defeat against a decent side. I'd understand if we were 4-0 after half an hour like qpr.

Unfortunately we may not see the best of us until September. We all know the gaps that need filling. The squad available now is more than good enough to beat many champo clubs.

They are not missing though they are gone we need to stop thinking like this as though they are out injured the fact is we no longer have them and we need to makeup the gap somehow.
Aaggghh, Jedi lad, you could have let us down gently, perhaps saying they’ve been furloughed or are working from home in the first instance 😢

The flappers are out in force as per usual, we over did the tip-tap football and found Millwall resolute and hardworking. It happens. Beer and defeat always see dramatic statements.

It hasn’t happened all that quickly, we have won 2 of our last 11 competitive games.

We’ve been poor for quite a while, couldn’t muster a goal across 2 play off games and equally toothless today.
It’s that momentum thing again. We have become accustomed to not winning football matches. We were told and some fans agreed that prior to the playoffs, the games we didn’t pick up 3 points in were not a concern.

Granted, preseason games, you don’t expect to win, but when will this losing streak become a concern?

Also, does Carrick have a ruthless side to him where he will demand rather than put his comforting arm around their shoulders?

Time will tell on the last point.

I would still like to see an experienced, older head come in to work with Carrick.

He is very new the role and I think he would benefit from such guidance.

Woodgate is not the answer.

Agreed. I think Woodgate would still be an asset as a coach, but not as Assistant.

A Mike Phelan or Carlos Queroz (spelling?)…..I’m sure he would have plenty of connections.

I’m sure Carrick is a dream to play for, as he try to give confidence and back his players, but can he tell individuals or the group it HAS to be better. Can he give a rocket when it’s needed? I’m not convinced.

It’s football
the majority of football fans throughout the land will think this same thing more than once throughout the season 👍🏻

Exactly this. Our current run is frighteningly identical to that of Wilder and Yes, there are reasons. Partly because of our injuries we are desperately short of square pegs in square holes. Having three players playing a role they are not used to, or any good at is desperation and it happens because we have no alternative right now. No fit RB loses us that game in a moment. But that was about their sixth good chance whilst we'd had one in the same time. Having to play two 'trees' out of their comfort zone is desperation. Of course Carrick has to say he's confident about Crooks - what else would he say? Forss was arguably our biggest threat and if he had been played more centrally perhaps Silvera could have been used in his right wing role instead. Not seeing this and stubbornly sticking with something that's clearly not working for 69 minutes is the biggest mistake. Carrick played the cards he had but I think he played them badly. What is not Carrick's fault is the club not having a capable LB having just let one leave looks ludicrous.

Obviously opinion divides along the lines of "only one game - bedwetters" and - this has been going on for a considerable time. If the clubs ambition actually is promotion this year (rather than in 2 or 3 years when our new signings have developed) then some remarkable solutions need to be found in the next three weeks which, if our pre-season friendlies and yesterday are anything to go by, is going to be a huge task.

Haha
It’s true though isn’t it as I’ve seen others say the same. The fact is though we really do need to start again.

It’s one game, why do boro fans press the Armageddon button every time?
IF it was one game, taken alone rather than a continuation of some completely flat displays over the last six or seven Championship games plus the pe-season friendlies perhaps I'd agree that pressing the Armageddon button was a bit premature.

If we want some form of sustainable planning we need our own players, not loads of loans.
Problem is our own players generally aren't as good as the top loan players.
That's the conundrum, instance success but if it fails you rip it up and start again or a longer term strategy that may not give instant rewards.....
Last season was unbelievably good football when Archer, Ramsey, Giles were firing on all cylinders, doubt we can get anywhere near that again....

A couple of observations re loans. We seem to do our main transfer business very late in the window especially in regard to loans. How have Sunderland in comparison tied up several loans this season and last with premier league teams far earlier. Making key moves so late makes the prospect of a good start difficult and automatic promotion impossible.

Secondly with carricks contacts at man utd and the number of good prospects there why are we not utilising loans from them.

Who do sunlun have on loan ??

There’s no middle ground.

It happened under Wilder and it appears to be happening now.
When Carrick started we had a fully fit squad prepped and ready to go.. a few injuries, a few players coming and going and we lose by a fine margin on the first game of the season.
