Why are most of Boro players not being vaccinated

If anyone has a subscription for The Athletic there was a really interesting piece about footballers/clubs opinions on vaccines. General gist is that the clubs are desperate for players to get jabbed up, but there is a lot of unease amongst players. A lot of it down to misinformation spread on social media.

I suppose really it's just a microcosm of society, it's just football has more of a spotlight on it.

I think this as well - we know vaccination rates are a lot lower in those age bands - it will not be just Middlesbrough. Our manager has had covid, several of the players have had covid but they won't want to force everyone. But just look how costly this has been for Hayden. By the way, lets hope he is OK and not ill. We should say that first and foremost, get well soon and hopefully avoid experiencing serious illness.

footballers are in the demographic of young, and on the whole poorly educated. I suspect some think they are too physically strong to catch it.

I cannot quite believe Hayden Coulson he had A virus last summer and it cost him dear - getting COVID may well have cost him his last chance at a Boro career under Warnock at Boro. He surely would have taken some part at Fulham.
I'd say the fact he doesn't seem to have a squad number isn't going to do his boro career much good either..........

I'm very disappointed in the players after reading this. It's very selfish, they are putting all of the backroom staff and coaching team (who are in the at risk age bracket) all at risk and not putting the club first. I don't understand why as a few of them (Dale Fry) we quite badly affected by the virus.

Maybe they are just scared of needles !
Our lass has a needle phobia, it’s not uncommon.
(tongue in cheek comment - of course)

Different generation to this board coffin dodger membership probably explains the difference in attitude. I have spoken to a fair number of younger folk who all feel they are not at risk and don't really consider the wider implications.

It doesn't mean they are thick, they just probably read comics rather than news

Do those not jabbed put others in jeopardy for the start of the season, ball boys, physio, back room staff etc. Some maybe carriers without knowing it and happily passing it about.

Clearly the biggest risk to these lads is long covid, that is the ticking time bomb.

What the hell do people think might be in this vaccine??? It's not got anything in it that will have long term consequences - apart from immunity to Covid hopefully but we shall see - some idiots seem to think that the vaccine will cause you to self combust or grow a second head in 5yrs time.

It is beyond stupid.
