Who went to the Zenith Data Systems Cup Final?

Me.Lived in Reading at the time.Mam and dad came down for the weekend and we all went.My first time there.Such a disappointment after the semis...

I was there, queued from the early hours outside Ayresome one Sunday to get a ticket. Result and competition didn't matter the Boro had finally got to Wembley. Bumped into the team at the services on the way back, my signed programme is still one of my most treasured positions and Parky signed my ticket stub.

I was in the last Boro block of seats before the Chelsea fans, it kicked off at half time on the concourse and in the bogs, my introduction to Chewsea fans.....

I remember more about queuing for the West Ham tickets than of the actual final.

Went down at about 4 in the morning and the queue was already right down Ayresome Street and along Linthorpe Road to Sacred Heart Church. I was supposed to be going to a christening in Darlington at 1pm and thought this is going to be pushing it. Then they opened the gates early and I thought this is going to be OK as we slowly wound our way towards the ticket office. No chance!

Fortunately in the pre- mobile phone days so Mrs Norfolk was unable to contact me, but when I got home I was in some bother. Got to our friends house well after christening but in time for the party. No way was I allowed to tell the truth about why we were late. My poor daughter, six months old at the time, had to take the blame for throwing up all over just as we were leaving the house. Did manage to explain to father of the christened child why we were really late. He thankfully totally understood and agreed with me that my wife's perception of me just standing in a queue for a ticket to watch a bunch of kids kick a ball around was totally out of order.

I remember waiting with my parents outside the twin tower at the Boro end for my sister and brother in law who had travelled down separately and it kicked off between two groups of passing Boro and Chelsea fans who were drinking out of cans and my mother who was well into her sixties at the time somehow ended up in the middle of them getting sprayed with beer and I had to drag her out. It was all handbags between the hooligans and looking back I’m sure one of them must have dragged her in for a laugh. No harm done thankfully.

Great day though and it will always be our first Wembley final no matter what anybody thought of the ZDS and there were far less matches played at Wembley in those days, it was more special.

I was 5. Couldn't get tickets and remember my dad jumping up and down by the radio when he won some, in the chelsea end. Remember a certain service station and being on a coach, but nothing else!.

It certainly was special

Similar to my dad at Wembley, he went downstairs to get some beer, I went not long after him & there was hell on, fighting on the concourse, my dad just walked through it as if nothing was wrong, what a bloke he was, miss him still, hope I'm loved by my kids as he was to me

I have no doubt you are E74.
My mother and father were massive Boro fans and are also sadly no longer here so it’s great to have happy memories stirred by posts like these. 👍

Mate was at a college at Chalfont St Giles (cockernee rhyming slang :)) in Buckinghamshire.
So about 4 of us went and slept over - us 4 and an inflatable skeleton we named 'Bernie'.
Remember trouble kicking off on Wembley Way on way back to the tube station. Wasn't involved but lots of noise, dust and shouting. Not into that kind of thing but disappointing to see Chelsea back to their usual tricks. Suppose should have been ready for it after battle of Stamford Bridge in 1988.
When you think the slashings at Everton occurred around the same time it was quite a 'lively' time to be travelling footie fan.

I was too young and couldn't afford it anyway. But I did earn a quid standing in the queue for a ticket for someone

I was there, don’t remember a thing about it. I was 13 at the time. Remember the noise but that’s about it.

Me and our dad made the pilgrimage from darkest Scotland and back in the same day,I remember him almost falling asleep at the wheel on the way back.
Precious memories though as he's now going through the horrific condition that is dementia.
