Who is not feeling it with Michael Carrick?

Less experienced than Rooney, Lampard, Gerrard, Robson, Southgate when they got their first managerial jobs?

Yea in theory Carrick is more experienced than every one of those if i remember correctly?

Those 5 i believe went straight into managerial jobs?

Carrick has worked under Jose and Ole Gunnar - and managed them a few games himself. So in fact theres a pretty bloody big gulf in experience there.

Not to forget he's played under the greatest manager ever for a long time.

Look at Arteta now after working with Pep.

I think not especially if he brings in the right people to do the hands on coaching.
Robson - player manager with Middlesbrough
Rooney - player manager with Derby
Southgate - straight into management with Middlesbrough
Lampard - straight into management with Derby
Gerrard - youth coach at Liverpool for a year then to Rangers

Carrick - 3 years assistant at Man Utd including Mourinho & Solskjarr, ended up caretaker manager of Man Utd (he has the highest win percentage of any Man Utd manager in history)

After retiring, Carrick became a coach at Manchester United and was given a position as part of the coaching staff with Kieran McKennaunder Jose Mourinho's management, after the departure of Rui Faria. He worked with Mourinho until the latter's departure on the 18 December 2018
Assuming that's a copy and paste from Wiki? Because Carrick retired in 2018 too. So that must mean he worked as a coach under Jose for the best part of 6 months, if that?

3 years for Aitor under Jose is a hell of a lot more than 6 months under Jose.

Like I say, I pray we've got it right, assuming Carrick is unveiled as our manager.

I just worry there's danger signs written all over the place with this appointment.

2 years as captain under Louis van Gaal who described him as his player/coach

How long did he work under Jose at Utd as a coach?

Was it even a year?

The majority of his time at Utd as a coach was under Ole who quite frankly is a terrible manager.
Still managed to finish second to City the season before he was sacked, had them on a long unbeaten run as well didn’t he (might have been away from?)

I don’t think he did that bad considering the issues at that club

Gary Neville was a captain for longer, under a better manager at Utd.

And yet he's a quite shocking manager...as proven at Valencia.

Just because you captained a football team, it doesn't mean you're automatically cut out for management.
Did Gary Neville end up being Jose Mourinho’s assistant? Did he manage Man Utd?

I also think MC has better interpersonal skills than Pullis, Warnock and Wilder and will relate to the players better.

As well as coaching and tactics you want a culture where the players feel good and want to put a shift in for the manager.

Carrick is well regarded by players he has worked with.

I'm not feeling it..
BUT...

I wanted Pulis
I thought Warnock would take us up
I was ecstatic with Wilders appointment

I clearly know nothing about management and Carrick will smash the league!!

I’m half feeling it.

Was more excited by Wilder tbh, perfect fit for us and LMA manager of the year. Thought he’d be here for years and get us properly purring, and last January it looked exactly like that.

Something went wrong in the meantime, whether that’s Chris Wilder’s fault or Steve Gibsons, probably a bit of both.

We need a reset, some professionalism and some energy. You’d think a new first time manager and some seriously experienced coaching staff from a top, top club would do that.

But am I buzzing? Nah.

There will be players at the club who will have had posters of him on their wall as kids.
Definitely not. Michael Carrick was a really good player, but he’s not Steve Gerrard or Wayne Rooney.

Put it this way, the next generation Juninho isn’t signing for us and saying the reason he’s here is because Michael Carrick was his footballing idol.

Michael Carrick went to Rome, just to see Jose
Michael Carrick went to Rome, just to see Jose
Michael Carrick went to Rome, just to see Jose and this is what he said
Hows about some players for the boro, how’s about players who can score
Y’see the midfield has no bite and we’re playing fcuking shyte,
We need to get some bodies through the door

It's a massive meh for me. I just don't see what's in it for any party.

We're writing off a season that is clinging on by a thread to allow Carrick to get to grips with running a club that isn't Manchester United - like going from running a run-down city centre hotel, to managing a run-down seaside B&B, at the moment.

Carrick was never the inspiring leader who is going to drive a club forward in his own image, so he'll have to fold to any structure the club is trying to put in place. As it seems, he'll have to work with any player the club brings in but then carry the can if the results don't improve.

I don't see how its an appointment that can motivate our under-performing players, or put more confidence in our better ones.

The major positive for me would be a head coach and a coaching team with no set agenda or prejudice against any player at any level of the club so there might be less of the stubborness that sees bought players like Hoppe nowhere near the first team.

But I would think its an appointment which says we're only able to compete at Championship level for the next couple of seasons.

First full season at Utd, under Ole and Carrick as one of his coaches they finished on 66 points...33 points from 1st place.

Second full season they slightly improved on their league position and points. 2nd place on 76 points. Still won absolutely nothing.

Third season sacked in November. This is after signing Ronaldo, Varane & Sancho.

That same Utd team failed to get out of a relatively easy CL group in 2020/21...after being on 9 points from their first 3 games...They then got to a Europa League final and played an opponent who had no previous silverware in Europe, other than Intertoto Cup...Utd were big favs to win that match too....they lost!

That managerial team of Ole as manager were an absolute shambles. They were massive bottlers in all competitions.

I am not one minute putting the whole blame on Carrick, but whilst he's been a coach, he's been part of a group, that collectively, have hugely underachieved with the finances, tools, players and resources they had available.

Other than being a fantastic player (which IMO means absolutely sod all when going into management) and him being young with 'potential'...I see this appointment being hugely risky. A lot riskier than going with someone with a little more experience.

To be fair I'm not overly feeling anyone linked. I think it's more down to the fact any name after Wilder was always going to be a down hill step in terms of a 'name'

That said he failed. I'm not sure how it has gone so spectacularly wrong in such a short space of time. Yet it did.

So any name now is very much 'meh'. That doesn't mean they won't make us better. We maybe just need a new 'voice' and ideas.

So whoever gets it I'll back. Yet I'm not remotely checking twitter etc like I normally woul. Im very causal and 'let's see who we get'.

I am 70/30 in favour. I have my doubts, but Carrick has been part of the coaching staff for some of the worlds best players and played himself at the very top. He will have learned a lot as a player as well as a coach.

I think give him a try and get behind him.

Yeah, and I don’t see how that’s an appealing pitch for any manager or would-be manager who knows what they’re doing.

It’s like saying, “Hey remember Chris Wilder? LMA manager of the year, was in the Champions League places with Sheff United for most of the season? Linked with Premier League jobs despite being bottom 3 in the Champo? He hated it here because we signed ***** for 12 months and didn’t replace our best players, with our Director of Football who used to be a scout at Norwich. Fancy the job though? You’ll get the blame. Here’s Marcus Hoppe and less than no midfielders, and the fans already hate you, good luck.”

If he knows what he is doing I suspect he will ask what the set up is. Dean Ashton on the FL Show at the weekend if anybody saw it spelt out the issue at the weekend. A Manager has to go in and coach the players he is given and have no say in recruitment. If that is the plan then don't take the job if you want your own players

One of my concerns with Carrick is whether or not he's a leader. I can remember him giving a lacklustre interview once when he was Utd captain and they'd just been beaten, and Roy Keane saying "that interview was just like their performance, flat".
