Who is not feeling it with Michael Carrick?

Normally when you get a new job the fans are exiting and behind you.

Not many people are feeling the love with Carrick.
I think this is no reflection on him. More about how excited we all were with the Wilder appointment and how that has now turned out.

I think it would take a Jose or Pep joining for everyone to get excited, and the club would still find a way to **** that up.

I wasn’t especially arguing against rookies. It worked with Robson, McClaren, Karanka etc as you know. My point was really about how there is no point appointing a manager who is long in the tooth and worked under many other structures, if none of them resemble the one we’d be asking him to work under. And that’s even assuming that the structure we are moving towards now even remotely resembles a structure that’s been implemented anywhere else.
I agree.
If you are going to have a structure (that is unclear with an opaque title) headed by an absolute rookie in a maybe Director of Football sort of role, then it requires a Head Coach who will accept the constraints on him, not a manager.
If you are a giant club with huge identity, I can maybe see an ongoing structure at the club with a Head Coach that turns over quite quickly. But we are not that and are currently a shambles. We need a manager who gets to actually choose his squad, not a scout from Norwich.

Probably. Though the idea of a Sporting Director/Head of Football has long been mooted on this board, and I don’t really know if we were in a position to attract someone to the role who was already performing in it effectively elsewhere. I think whoever we got was going to be someone who saw the opportunity as a promotion, but who had delivered in whatever role they used to do (as Scott apparently did).

Personally I feel it’s far too early to judge Scott. People talk about long term plans and even if we (the football community) don’t give managers/head coaches time anymore, surely we have to give someone whose in a completely newly created role longer than 12 months to have an impact?

That said, it would be nice if 10 days after the sacking of Wilder the two bookes favourites weren’t already coaches at the club. 🤦‍♂️

With the proviso that we were playing Blackpool's scratch side, I haven't seen us pass the ball that well in years. Also challenging and winning the ball high up the pitch. I think this Carrick chap might be having an effect...

Michael Carrick went to Rome, just to see Jose
Michael Carrick went to Rome, just to see Jose
Michael Carrick went to Rome, just to see Jose and this is what he said
Hows about some players for the boro, how’s about players who can score
Y’see the midfield has no bite and we’re playing fcuking shyte,
We need to get some bodies through the door
Well.. he’s ruined THAT song.

Good result tonight, jury still out for me.

Two excellent away wins against Blackpool and Wigan who were bang average.
We got a few thumpings off bang average teams last season & very little change out of some bang average teams this sesson

I was gutted with our performances this season & feared the worst, Carrick has changed that for me, could be another false dawn, but im enjoying it till then

Despite my initial reservations I am really enjoying how we play under Carrick. We kick it around at the back and then boom, we are in the final third and creating chances. We must be pretty frustrating to play against.

My only slight concern is we are so dependent on Jones and Akpom - if anything happens to those two we are in the clarts big time. We really need to keep them fit and contracted for as long as possible!!

Keep it up Carrick! I'm loving it so far (y)

Yes, definitely liking the look of things with Carrick.

Still important to get in a good, experienced coach to work with him as soon as we can.

But he's doing better than you expected so far? Or won't you even give him that morsel of praise?
Even a broken clock tells the right time twice a day.

I will give him it, the team is playing well. We are definitely experiencing the new managers bounce.

Big test is Norwich the first decent team he has faced.

Yap, that was incredibly impressive. I know Blackpool kept making some bad decisions (like trying to play it out) but Boro pressing them relentlessly forced a lot of errors and we were quick to regain possession a decent way into their half and make some good chances.
