what book are you reading ?

Just finished The Offing by Ben Myers. Enjoyed it, bit like A Month in the Country.

Set on the North Yorkshire Coast - Robin Hoods Bay.
Ha ha I am just reading The Offing - have you read The Gallows Pole by Ben Myers about the coin counterfeiter gang from Cragg Vale near Halifax a band called The Shining Levels also from Durham have written a wonderful album based on the book and the characters chronicled
I kept a record of all the books I read last year - I decided half way through the year to try to read some of the great unread that have taunted me from my book shelves over the years, so I read at least one older book from my collection each month as well as newer stuff.
But The Offing is a wonderful book and I would also recommend it. Having spent a few summer's days and winter's days doing archaeology on the moors above "Bay" I love reading this charming story set where the folds of the moors come within sight of that sweeping bay.

Had The Offing pushed into my hands by Fiona at Whitby Bookshop last year, a lass who knows her onions. I absolutely loved it, a beautiful read.

Wandering through Waterstones, I was looking for easy read fiction. I found an author called Peter May who has a book called Lockdown. Written last year, so you can imagine it follows the pandemic quite closely. Can't bring myself to finish it yet because we are in the middle of a pandemic and I don't want his ending to potentially be ours :)

Also ordered a few more Steve Berry books as I have gaps in my collection and I find them enjoyable enough and a bit more involved that the Jack Reacher, read it on the khazi stuff.

Not read that yet but will try and find a copy.

Just finished Box 88 by Charles Cumming. The story‘s main protagonist is a seasoned spy who is taken captive. It details his life as a spy by flip flopping between 1989, when he was recruited from his public school, and the present. A page turner.

If you like historical fiction, I saw Mark Turnbull speaking in Stockton in the week before Lockdown and bought his book, Allegiance of Blood. He writes about the English Civil War from the stand point of an officer of the Royalist cause. It is brilliantly researched by north easterner Mark and weaves a fictional family drama into the bloody events of the first of the 17th century civil wars that ripped families and communities apart - it is an exciting and accomplished book.

I found an author called Peter May
Brilliant author - he's written a series of detective books set in France (the Enzo McLeod books) and a series set in Lewis in the Hebrides - both highly recommended

What I'm currently reading is Ben Ryan's book about coaching the Fiji Rugby 7's team to the 2016 Olympic Gold medal - the three year journey from when he was appointed, the politics, identifying new talent, culture change, everything - great read

i'm 2/3rds of the way through; Stairway to Heaven Led Zeppelin uncensored - Richard Cole.

The font is very small would be my only criticism.
Have you read How Black Was Our Sabbath? Written by Boro's own Graham Wright - long time drum roadie for Sabbath. Now to be found showing off his excellent local paintings on facebook, Graham worked driving the big tour trucks and designing and building stage sets for Sabbath, U2 and all manner of bands on stadium, arena tours after a long, long stint with Sabbath.

Currently reading A Year in the Life of the Yorkshire Shephedess by Amanda Owen. Great stuff. She and her husband Clive farm at Ravenseat in the wild uplands of Yorkshire, while bringing up their nine children, who are all brilliant.

Read her first book in November, Mrs Mrs. Foggy bought me it for my birthday. She got me Amanda’s other two books for Christmas. Very interesting, what a tough life and what a gorgeous family they all are.

Haven't read one in a while but really like the Jack Reacher novels as they are fun, and very easy to pick up and put down whenever. I have 'Blue Moon' sitting there that i was bought in September and haven't made time to pick it up yet. Must start it. Have never been a big reader so these are probably my level outside of Autobiographies tbh.
