What a mistake sacking Wilder.

It’s an interesting debate. I think we *should* have too much to be in the bottom three or four places for very long, but any new manager needs to nail down a preferred back-line and build out from there. If we do that then you’d think with Jones and Giles playing further forwards maybe, with Muniz, Akpom, Forss and Watmore around, there’s enough to get enough goals and wins to move us away from danger.

I sense it’s quite like 2013/14 in that it looks and feels a bit worse than it actually is. It’s in desperate need of a Karanka-type appointment, someone to drill them and organise it and find a way to stitch the team together. The nature of this league means that 3 or 4 wins can dramatically change a season.

I’m optimistic we can move forwards in the next couple of months/up to the World Cup. I don’t think we’ll be in a relegation scrap.
Are you confident that Cattermole would be the appointment (if he is given the job) to do that viv?
I'm not.

Come here and have a big hug and some chocolate digestives 🍵
I'm doing a pack a day.. melting the chocolate with a lighter.

Wilder has that one good anthem that everybody couldn't stop singing.. somehow convinced folks that he was the next Beatles. He made a right Digsy's Dinner out of it! He Definitely Maybe signed up to the medium to long term project, and peaked with What's the Story? Clearly didn't want to Be Here Now
he was Standing on the Shoulder of Giants.. hardcore fans still Don't Believe the Truth.

Warnock had been at it for longer and was far more accomplished, he gave us The Great Escape!
far from Stereotypes and the story of a Charmless Man, he was a Top Man and we had the Best Days he did Entertain Me.

What are we left with now? You in your parker with sciatica from your daft walk, me in a tracksuit top shouting oi! at everything.

PALLY PARKLIFE!!
Do you work Newy?

Not really. I’d be amazed if he was anywhere near it TBH. I know each managerial appointment is a risk but appointing Cattermole at this moment in time would be extraordinary. And throw the whole structure of the club into doubt IMO, as if you’re going to do that then why spend money on a Head of Football and all the trimmings. It’d be a much, much bigger gamble than giving to Woodgate, which should tell us everything we need to know.

You are assuming our "Head of Football" isn't all over Cattermole.
Perfect puppet and nice and cheap to make a scapegoat of and get rid of.
I mean we need 12 or 13 windows to give Kieran a chance, don't we?

I’m assuming that because I’d be amazed if any senior technical football operator worth their salt went anywhere near that sort of appointment at this stage of that coach’s career/development. It’d be completely mind-blowing.

We need to give Scott more time IMO, certainly more than two transfer windows anyway. The next two windows are key. I still believe that if you choose your best central-defensive partnership and put an orthodox defensive midfielder into this side, we’d be a top-half side looking up rather than down.

The sort of doom and gloom we’re seeing now was there under Strachan, the end of Mowbray/early Aitor, and at different points of Woodgate’s spell. I just don’t see us being in our current league position for very long. Call me rose-tinted or whatever you like, that’s just what I think and how I feel about it.

Definitely too much glass half empty at the moment and I myself am guilty of that, win Saturday and get something at Wigan next week and things start to look a whole lot rosier. I think the gloom is down to many of us genuinely believing for the first time since Pulis was here we would be up there challenging, we tend to forget that there are about a dozen other clubs in the Championship expecting that too and that my fellow FMTMers is why I love the Championship and get bored with the EPL!

Anybody worried gibson has lost the plot? Wouldnt surprise me if scott quits next. Is gibson pushing hiis opinions and authority too far into other peoples roles at the club. If cattermole gets the job i fear for the club. Yes carrs as a coach to learn the trade off an experienced manager but not no. 1. Im starting to agree with some saying gibbo has lost his ambition and wants to do it on the cheap.

Sad.. we had such high hopes.

AH WELL, WE MOVE ON!

Sean Dyche - experienced
Rob Edwards - best mates with Kieran Scott
Hannes Wolf - cool name
Steven Cherundolo - the power of ’Steve’
Mark Robins - bottom of the league
Carlos Corberan - the hope of Huddersfield
Michael Reiziger - ex Boro jobs for the boys
Michael Carrick - doesn’t fancy football anymore
Anthony Barry - young first team coach for Chelsea & Belgium
Liam Rosenior - the brains behind Wayne Rooney
Lee Cattermole - Matty Bates.. but he doesn’t get his willy out

We have a weird way of doing things on the cheap.. why not just do things on the cheap then??

Overrated in my book. I think we should have stuck with Warnock, would have got same results, probably finished similar area, without leaving club a basket case.

Wilder is mainly rated due to eye catching cup runs. NW would have had us out of the cup, focused on top 6.
Of course we wouldn't have got the same results, the ppg under Wilder was far superior. Plus Warnock was leaving at the end of the season anyway

Wilder had the benefit of all Warnock’s players fully fit, plus a decent transfer window. Wilder finished the season averaging 1 point per game.

Saying Warnock was leaving at the end of the season.. so was Wilder!!

Warnocks players were a rag bag of average ability - whom even he couldnt manipulate to produce any consistency. Warnock s team won 6 out of 17 games. The performances were poor - which Boro fans observed - voting with their feet: the lowest attendance being 18,000 at home with the average around 20,000. This was at the beginning of the new season. He had over-stayed his "welcome". Gibson knew that and that is why he brought Chris Wilder in.

3 wins in 13 so far with one of them being Leo’s!

Let’s hope Gibson knows the right person to bing in again/this time.

I get that people are underwhelmed by the appointment of Cattermole (as I will be if it happens) but I don’t think anyone can categorically say it’s the wrong move until he actually takes charge of a few games.
