Weight loss injections

Stopped drinking and tried eating healthier. Weight came off steadily. Lost 3.5 stone in two years. Thought I was doing great, everyone telling me how good i looked. Turned out I'd developed type 1 diabetes at 50. 🤷

Can someone paraphrase the r last 5 mins ?

Basically he says something along the lines of ‘these drugs have a place in weight loss as if it was so easy just to tell fat people to have some will power etc no one would be fat. Fat people don’t want to be fat. And don’t listen to idiots who have never taken it telling you to inject yourself with willpower instead’ or something along those lines.

I've seen the whole video.

100% there is a place for these drugs in certain circumstances, but they are being overused even in cases where the situation could be addressed by lifestyle changes.

Doctors think so too: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/c4nnj0wrl49o

That is the method that was being used a year ago - people being told to eat healthy, exercise and to use willpower. IT wasn’t working - the UK was getting more obese.

If people want to pay for these drugs themselves and lose weight, saving the NHS millions of pounds in the process, then I have no problem with it whatsoever.

It is harder than ever to lose weight nowadays. There is wall to wall advertising of crap foods, fast food outlets round every corner, people working longer to make ends meet etc etc. If a group of people have found something that works and it’s not hurting others then fair play.

What is more likely is predatory companies and Instagram influencers promoting unnecessary medication with side effects for profits to people that don't need them. This is especially true for the demographic already associated with eating disorders, mental health issues and unnecessary cosmetic procedures.

The NHS prescribing them where required is very different to people de facto self prescribing

It would seem the government would agree and have changed how these drugs will be prescribed. The changes are sensible. It should mean that only the people who need these drugs get them.

One problem with the NHS is money. I satisfy the NHS criteria for Mounjaro but they won’t give me it. They won’t even entertain a discussion. They can’t afford to give it to everyone, only the severe cases. But it could be argued that they can’t afford not to give it to patients.

I have to be honest here, looking at your pic you definitely don’t need it. No wonder the NHS won’t give it to you looking as you do. What are you hoping to lose? A few grammes off your kneecaps?

Same could be said for drinking in moderation.

Binge eating is an addiction / coping mechanism for some overweight people. So taking away the appetite is a great start to a healthier life
Absolutely 💯
I'm multi addicted.
Gambling, Drugs , Sex
But my Food addiction is my longest standing and most difficult one.
Over 50 years of Binge eating/ Overeating.
I have tried everything
I did a 5k every day for a month in November and still gained weight.
Sugar addiction is the 2nd most Powerful addiction only behind Nicotine ..

I tried Surgery, Personal trainer , health coaches, Overeaters Anonymous, every diet Club on the Planet.

Still a daily struggle.
So when folk say " eat less , exercise more " I just know that normal people don't get addiction.

It's like saying to a alcoholic , just stop after 3 pints ..

Or just done a line at the weekend

So tempted to try these jabs , although I know my problem is more deep routed

Good luck, I hope it works for you

My Mrs has now been on them for 6 weeks or so. She's lost what she wanted to in quite a short period of time. No side effects so far apart from feeling a bit sick the day after she's done the jab.

Personally I'm not a fan but I can see how it could work for some people. It just seems like some easy win that is becoming a fad, for many that don't need it.
I believe there's legislation on its way to limit use

But there is a definitely a place for it, in the right situations

Update from me. I've been using Semiglutide (I think it's the generic name for the brand name Ozempic) for five months now. I'm one pound away from losing two stone and feel so much better in myself. The weight loss has been consistent, steady and sensible (one or two pounds a week) but now everyone I meet says "you're looking well" rather than calling me a fat knacker.

As I think I mentioned further up the thread, I comfort eat when I'm stressed or tired (an occupational hazard in my job unfortunately), and long working days make regular exercise difficult, so this has been a game changer for me. I am a pretty healthy eater when it comes to meals (crisps and biscuits have always been my Achilles Heel) and I have found I can still eat what I want, and lose weight too (the difference is, I don't want to eat big meals, and I have learned not to snack because two biscuits can make me too full to want a proper meal later. Being able to mentally decide "I've had enough" has been a revelation for me as I've been conditioned since childhood to clean my plate. I hope I can keep that mindset when I come off the injections).

As for side effects, there is a little nausea at times (for me triggered by either eating something unhealthy on an empty tummy, or as my bowels are moving and giving me that natural feeling that I need a dump.... Tmi sorry! ).

For those thinking of it, try it. If I could go back to November and talk to my pre-semiglutide self, I'd definitely tell them to go for it. For once I'm looking forward to summer and wearing t-shirts instead of hiding under loose fitting hoodies.

Go on then, update from me. 10 weeks in (I think) and I have lost 2 stone 3 lbs.

Going to stop in a couple of weeks as I have a trip to America coming up and want it out of my system for then or it will make the eating and drinking very miserable.

Overall very happy with the results. No side effects whatsoever and the weight loss has been very consistent.

That's great progress in ten weeks. Well done!

Weight loss.....

5 years ago I had an endoscopy and diagnosed with pre cancer in my oesophagus..... Which was basically a result of poor diet.... Eating late before bed and generally unhealthy lifestyle and being overweight.

So....

Reduced sugar is diet
There's methods in preparing for such as pasta - cook and cool, then reheat..... Turns hidden sugars into resistant starch better for you and less calories (just one example,)
Stopped eating at night after 8pm

Main change......
Started walking everyday I could
Built from 30 mins to an hour
Took my walk after main meal around 7pm (digests food quicker)
Drink plenty of water

Steadily lost 4 stone between first endoscopy in March and Xmas

And have generally kept the weight off.

No gym or fitness programmes etc
Just a tweak to lifestyle and some patience.

If I can do that, anyone can
