Weight loss injections

Weight loss.....

5 years ago I had an endoscopy and diagnosed with pre cancer in my oesophagus..... Which was basically a result of poor diet.... Eating late before bed and generally unhealthy lifestyle and being overweight.

So....

Reduced sugar is diet
There's methods in preparing for such as pasta - cook and cool, then reheat..... Turns hidden sugars into resistant starch better for you and less calories (just one example,)
Stopped eating at night after 8pm

Main change......
Started walking everyday I could
Built from 30 mins to an hour
Took my walk after main meal around 7pm (digests food quicker)
Drink plenty of water

Steadily lost 4 stone between first endoscopy in March and Xmas

And have generally kept the weight off.

No gym or fitness programmes etc
Just a tweak to lifestyle and some patience.

If I can do that, anyone can

Firstly well done! I never knew that about pasta too - I will take that on board.

You have done brilliantly but it isn’t as easy to say that because you have done it others can. I lost 2 stone in 2 months 2 years ago really easily - couldn’t do it this time. Work was probably the difference. Working away and for 50-60 hours a week compared to home working and doing 37 hours is a massive change and I just couldn’t get away with losing weight, seemingly no matter what I tried.

But that aside, did I say well done? 4 stone is brilliant - and keeping it off as well takes some doing!

Go on then, update from me. 10 weeks in (I think) and I have lost 2 stone 3 lbs.

Going to stop in a couple of weeks as I have a trip to America coming up and want it out of my system for then or it will make the eating and drinking very miserable.

Overall very happy with the results. No side effects whatsoever and the weight loss has been very consistent.
You'll be like a cheat code on the bike on the hills 👍

How did you all get on it, was it through your doctor or some online consult?

Be interesting to know how much of the weight loss is fat, and how much is muscle, that's the only thing which concerns me about all this. At the end of the day it's just heavy calorie restriction, and there's no way to get in enough protein to sustain muscles doing that, so there's gotta be muscle loss with the fat.

Much harder to shift the clem when you get older!

I have started using them recently and have felt the difference almost instantly. That voice in your head which craves the crisps, or cheese in my case just is not there anymore. It is worth saying that I am classed as morbidly obese by the BMI and have struggled with my weight for most of my adult life. I have never been a yo-yo dieter but I do enjoy a large meal and often at the completely wrong times of day. I am active, play golf regularly, play touch rugby and walk everyday, but you really can't out-train a bad diet. Having the option of this injection felt like a great support mechanism that can compliment my lifestyle without having the pressure of snacking my way out of seeing progress.

Three weeks in and almost a stone down already. I must stress though that I have began to increase my resistance training to maintain muscle mass and I do hit my protein target most days. Without considering these two elements into your lifestyle, then I believe from research that you do run the risks of stripping your body of essential muscle and tendon/ligament strength as well as fat.

I'm currently using MedExpress and on the 0.25ml dosage per week. You can up the dosages per month but I'm not due a renewal for another 7-10 days.

You’d probably need a couple of protein shakes a day alongside your healthy eating to get your protein intake up to a decent level to maintain / build muscle.

They’re usually around 100 calories for 25g protein.

(Alongside lifting heavy weights of course).

I’ll be interested to know what happens when people come off it, can they sustain or do the start getting into a cycle which ends up with higher does, more outlay.

if I was to do it I think I’d want to try incorporate some resistance training/light cardio, to build in new practices, that said easier said than done

So.. what's next?

I've been on the Mounjaro since 23rd February, have taken 5 shots and just increased the doe to 3.75 (using lower doses from a 5mg pen). The side effects have been numerous, mainly nausea/sulphur burps and headaches but also bad wind (glad I live alone) and a raised resting heart rate. I have lost 15lbs at my last weigh in.

The stuff is like magic. I just don't crave anything like pies, crisps, sweets and anything greasy like fish and chips just makes me feel sick. I tried a small portion of fish and chips last week and it was rank and made my side effects worse. I get full more quicky, eat more slowly and find I suddenly get full and can't face any more, which is a novel feeling. I hate wasting food. I've got the diet in a good place now, eating plenty of lean protein and minimising processed food as much as possible. Even booze has lost its appeal, apart from one or two at the weekend. And I mean one or two literally

The old adage of just needing willpower just doesn't ring true to me. I've been down that path so many times, trying everything under the sun over the last 3 decades. I have managed to lose 6 stones with Weight Watchers after getting a warning that I was pre-diabetic but put 4 back on over the last 5 years (the pandemic was the breaking point) and just can't get on with that plan any more. That said, there will need to be some willpower at the end of this to stay on a healthier diet and lifestyle. I'm not sure I want to stay on the jabs forever.

I've pencilled 6 months in to lose a steady amount of weight on a week-by-week basis. I've got a friend who has lost 6st in as many months as he's just been hammering gym classes and spin bikes everyday and the stress that it must cause on the body, not to mention hormones and bodily systems must be frantic. I've raised my concerns with him but he's happy living a slimmer lifestyle, his reasoning was that it is currently better than the beige rubbish and c0caine he used to put into it week on week, which I guess is a fair comment.

I'm using the Wegovy, I did have the option to start Mounjaro but read that the side-effects were more prominent. I had some bouts of nausea over the first 10 days or so but drank plenty of water and prioritised sleep. I would often find myself dozing off when I felt sick which helped manage it.

Use the my fitness app and track your food intake and then adjust your macros accordingly. Like most people have said, it turns off that desire to eat when you don't need to, it doesn't stop you eating the right ratio of foods for your goals.

Yep MedExpress for me as well, which appears to be the cheapest, you can get an extra £40 off if you use my code "XR698W" (Affiliate) which makes the 2.5ml £113. My first parcel has arrived this morning, I plan my first injection tomorrow after work.

So can you just buy it or is there a process you need to go through to be "allowed" it?

You have to put in your weight, height and it works out your BMI, then you have to take a picture of yourself in your underwear and passport/driving license and download to them, that's about it to be honest. takes 24 hours and it's in the post.

I've never been judged so much as I was when posting a suitable photo for MedExpress - it just wouldn't accept the type of t-shirt I was wearing. In the end I plucked one out of the wardrobe that I haven't worn for a good 3/4 years which wasn't flattering in the slightest.

SimpleOnlinePharmacy for me. Was £130 per pen with a discount code.

The fat / muscle thing is interesting. I haven’t been exercising with it so I can’t say if bike form has suffered due to muscle loss but I would think I’m getting enough protein - the same I was before anyway.

Gonna resume cycling this weekend so that will be a good indicator.

I have been very lucky and had minimal side effects. What kind of stuff do you eat?
