Violence returning to football - sickening

Last night before and after the game Leceister and Napoli fans kicked off. Back at the weekend, West Brom and Millwall fans had some chew at half time.

Nowhere near the levels of violence from yesteryear but a worrying trend . I hope these isolated incidents are just that. However idiots are easily influenced and look to copy and follow such incidents. Needs stamping out of the game - now!

It's a general trend that aligns with the ethos of this government. Right wing politics stokes violence, always has, always will. I mean politicians slamming people with empathy for being 'woke', essentially undermining empathy, stoking hatred of europeans via brexit, using muslim girls as hate figures for their own political gains. It's all part of an organised strategy and intended to create some trouble, that will then allow them to introduce more oppressive laws.

Absolute nonsense - football violence has never really gone away!

Exactly this, and it's part of a wider cultural issue. Young men (and older men) will always fight, they always have and always will.

Whether it be Mods v's rockers, Millwall V's Chelsea or Thorntree V's Park End, there will always be tribalism, and always be violence as a result of that.

I didn't say it had ever "gone away", are you claiming that violence now is the same as it was 10 years, 20 years and 50 years ago? because that doesn't match most opinions or experiences

Step outside and say that! Yer Bassad!

No there's a lot less violence in general than 70s and 80s
agreed and I'd say todays violence is more than 90s and 00s.

Football violence is just reflective of greater society, and as our society shifts right, becomes less tolerant, and more xenophobic, then it's obvious that the shift in wider society will filter into footy violence. Governments are in the business of society building, and this government (for 10 years now) have chosen this direction and have to own it rather than blame the disenfranchised youth

Early 90's perhaps, but that's probably more down to Ecstasy than any government. Late 90's and 2000's there was certainly violence, just that much of it took place away from the grounds for fear of CCTV and the subsequent dawn raids, but I can think of plenty of fights during this time (Boro at Man City, Sunderland and Spurs spring instantly to mind).

I also think coke has a massive impact today, both at football and on a night out, as it's become more and more accessible and in vogue.

of course drugs impact this, but youth have always been drawn to violence when there are no other opportunities. The more people on teh fringes of society, the more people with nothing left to lose and no other entertainment than violence. It's always been the case.

It hasn't gone away, you just have to have gone to the last few home matches to Leeds to see how crazy it is after the match. Imo the police have become complacent and are overwhelmed when it flares up, which is drawing some younger people to that side of the things again.

PS this is not blaming the Police, it's not them who are turning up looking for chew, just maybe they have taken their eye of the ball or as suggested above there isn't sufficient staffing.

sadly these are not isolated incidents, there are still too many who think supporting your team and being vocal about it is a trigger for battle, why people cannot just accept that opposition fans feel for their team like they feel for theirs, and be civil about it I don't know

Didn’t we have an incident with wannabe hard boys attack a QPR FAN based in the area causing dental damage to the poor fella?

I have no doubt the majority are on Gear (coke). Mix that with all day drinking and not only does it make you feel 'harder' but also increases the amount you can drink.

Throw in 10-15 of them on it and it's a recipe for disaster. I saw 3 empty baggies at Cov just sat in the urinal.

I know the English get a bad press. I have to say the Italians are horrid f*ckers and use weapons. Apparently they were starting on people in Leicester yesterday afternoon. We saw when Boro went to Rome. They don't even attack other hooligans just anyone with a shirt on (usually not hooligans).

I read this morning that some Leicester fans have already canceled flights for the away game. I don't blame they as they have a right reputation. It's a sad state of affairs of you can't go and watch a team in Europe.
