Tory leadership down to 3 candidates

Kemi Badenoch’s campaign team is arguing that the leak shows Jenrick is not fully committed to a hardline immigration policy. A Badenoch campaign source told the Sun:

Jenrick claims that he was radicalised in the Home Office.
But this shows that a few months before he flounced out of government he was proposing to swap migrants with France, which would have done nothing to reduce overall numbers, and casting doubt on the Rwanda scheme, which would have provided an effective deterrent.
Rob’s late conversion to hardline immigration policies isn’t fooling anyone.

The Conservatives aren’t the height of diversity but they do a sight better than the invariably pale male and stale choices thats all the peoples’ party shamefully manages. It’s historically impossible to be Labour leader with breasts never mind brown skin. The raciest they got was a non-practising jew (a century and a half after the Tories had one).
Mmmm look at the right wing media and Tory treatment of Dianne Abbot and Sadiq Khan as an example of the personal abuse which a Labour leader who isn’t pale, male and
stale might get to experience….

They dont, the membership has never voted for a person of colour as leader, labour have always had a higher % of non white mps and female mps

That’s one way of looking at it. Here’s another;
Female leaders / prime ministers:
Tories 3 Labour 0

Non-white leaders/ prime ministers
Tories 1 Labour 0

Facts, boy, give me facts. Sad, but true, Labour are still unable to elect a female or non-white leader.

Sunak wasn’t voted in by the members….
The Tory lunatic membership has never voted for a candidate with colour and the same is true this time.
I’ll bet my house it’s going to be jenrick, he could say anything and they still won’t vote for a Nigerian woman.
That’s how they see it.

Great to watch 🍿🍿🍿

Not true, Labour have had two female leaders.

Thatcher was half man and half monster.

Since Cameron you just had to turn up at no 10 to get a stint as Tory leader and PM regardless of your origin such has been the desperate state of the Tories.

Much much harder to become Labour leader and, because of the right wing media influence, even harder to become a Labour PM.

In any case shouldn’t it just be the best person for the job?

That’s not correct HC. Beckett and Harman were both acting leaders. I agree that it should be the best person, it’s just that Labour, like you it seems, always believe that to be a male.

It's not a great stat but always dangerous to draw such inferences from such a small sample size.

And what should Labour do about it? Rule out males from standing for the next leader? There were plenty of female candidates last time.

Or are you suggesting Labour members are more misogynistic and racist than tory members? I mean that simply isn't true is it? Nor is it true of the parliamentary party.

Labour have plenty of female ministers. The Chancellor is female. So you can't say they're not being given the right experiences/opportunities.

Seems far more likely it's a statistical anomaly that tories have had more female leaders than that they're more diverse as a party.

I hope you are correct Festa, but it’s a rather large statistical anomaly isn’t it? 5 candidates for leader, only one of whom is male and guess who wins? It may be instructive to debate the root cause, so why do you think there has never been a female Labour leader?

The leader of the Labour Party is voted for in part by the Unions. The Unions have many female members. In some Unions there are more female members than males. Sorry I just don't buy that misogyny exists in the Labour Party to the extent that female candidates are discouraged.

People arguing against this are the same ones saying Boro should be top because we've got the highest xG.

I find it interesting that the top two jobs the prime minister can hand out: chancellor and home Sec went to women yet some still belive the lie that Starmer hates women. It's amazing how much a media lie can leech into people's brains

Why do you think it is?

You're the one who's making the assumption the tories are getting it right and labour aren't.

So what would you like to see Labour do about it? What is it that the tories are doing so much better?

I think it is pretty close to a fact that the tories are littered with racists. Mysoginists, I don't know, it's certainly less clear. I don't see much evidence that labour have the same issue with either folks of colour or women.

I have no doubt that labour has some racists and mysoginists in their ranks but the tory ideology in recent years would attract greedy, selve serving racists. Labour's ideology, not so much.
