This is the most corrupt government we’ve ever had

The suspension of tendering was a disgrace. The tendering process is there for a reason and not just for value of money, it also ensures greater quality standards. Buying useless items helps no-one.

Legislation should have been put in place to increase the speed and efficiency of the process rather than scrap it. The tories have took advantage of a pandemic to line the pockets of their mates at tax payers expense and leaving the NHS with rubbish PPE.

No problem. The government did buy some stuff centrally and distribute it to those regional centers but it was a small portion of it. The majority of the people in the chain were just doing their regular jobs, or a more pressurised version of it and they were as heroic in getting it all sorted as the front-line clinical staff. (I just knocked a few spreadsheets up for them to keep track of it all so I am definitely not including myself in that heroic bracket.)
Iam sorry but they not just as heroic as the front line staff, the front line staff were putting their lives on the line.

Cog in the machine. One can't function without the other and they had to do a ridiculous amount of work over and above what they usually would. They had to go into the office when everyone else was being told to stay at home. It was scary times but they went in and played their part. It's not a competition for who is the most heroic.

Not a competition, just not a comparison either

Tories and morals, strange bed partners there Fabio.

I agree, but there must be some amongst them who are concerned about being guilty by association and worried about being perceived to be as bad as those in the cabinet. Even just the tiniest slither of morals or principles would lead to someone being extremely uncomfortable with the behaviour of the current Tory top dogs. It’s a long shot, I know.

You can be certain that, if there are, they're nowhere near the cabinet.

I took an interest in Malaysia's 1MDB scandal and the rampant corruption that has always been the norm there. Now the UK feels the same. Politicians practicing corruption and lying on a daily basis out in the open with impunity.

Tories have always been hypocritical, corrupt animals but they are now reaching new depths.

When I was in KL, a taxi driver explained this scandal to me. I was thinking it's not far removed from what's happening in this country now.

So, anyone who says they don't care about politics, should really look at places like Malaysia and see how impoverished the average working man is, realise that's what's coming here. And they have oil!

It's always nice to hear from Captain Hindsight.
That must be why he recently warned BoJo that he has one month to fix the test track and trace process or face the catastrophic impact of a 2nd wave. Similarly he's endorsing over 50s taking up the flu jab before this winter, advice I've not heard from any Government minister. That's not hindsight any way you look at it. Oh, and in other news.

That's not exactly ripping up trees is it.

If you read my posts then you will see that I didn't defend anyone in government. I defended the abandonment of the tendering process as a necessity in an emergency and I defended the majority of people that were placing orders without the security of a tendering process behind them and all of the companies that went over and above to help out where possible. Some dishonest people/businesses and governmental decision makers have taken the opportunity to line their pockets and I clearly haven't or wouldn't defend them.

It was common knowledge that we were overpaying for all sorts of stuff, it is no surprise that people that know the system knew how/where to insert themselves to make some money. This is why we have a tendering process and why we are audited because it reduces the opportunity for people to do this sort of thing without getting caught.

The government aren't a single entity. It was individuals taking the **** which an organisation can't stop. What it can do is punish people when it is found that they have done something wrong. Standing by people that have been found out essentially committing fraud is reprehensible and should be called out.

"It was common knowledge that we were overpaying for all sorts of stuff, it is no surprise that people that know the system knew how/where to insert themselves to make some money.."
Im astonished you can calmly make such statements.
If you realise this and are happy to tell us all about it - it appears that you and others are at least complicit in fraud - by saying nothing!
Following procedures - making excuses and constructing a logical arguement to legitimise deliberate corruption - if you witnessed the normal process on the production line of processes - did you think about raising the issue with your seniors?
What do your fellow staff think?
Did you just put your head down and say nothing?
Or was it nothing to do with your role?
You cant justify suspending accountability because of an emergency.
Lets suspend Parliament [because decision making takes too long] and let a small group of autocratic oligarchs make all the decisions?
