* The Unofficial "Official" Watford v Boro Match-Night Thread *

McNair on the ball in midfield is an issue for me. It's either turn and play backwards to the keeper from their half. Or it goes long and high from own half.

Hard to believe it's the same player who played that lovely forward oss for the goals at the Riverside the other week.
You can see it on his face,he’s just not up for it. Always throws himself to the ground rather than getting into the right position.heading is woeful and has no pace.

Yeah I'm not having Muniz being criticised for that at all. Could totally understand if they were all over us and we needed a breather but that wasn't the case at all.
They were dragging us all over the place every time they came forward. They weren't dominating the game, but they were extremely dangerous every time they came forward. We absolutely needed to keep the ball as far away from the goal as possible at that time.

I wouldn't want him to be criticised for it by Wilder because it's his willingness to do stuff like that which will make him so great for us this season. You can't try to change that because then he won't be as good. But I do think Wilder should have took him off for Watmore because we didn't need that kind of player on the pitch at that time, we needed someone to do the basic things and make sure we held on to the ball.

Bout time we started picking up some points we don’t deserve, but to do that we would have to start playing ****.

I think I’d rather us just keep playing well, but actually get what we deserve.

The Championship this season looks like an extremely average league and we are among the ”also rans”. There isn’t anywhere on the field where Boro excel.

Fair points but watmore wont win long balls, never mind hold onto them well enough. Should have maybe brought him on for mcgree.

Thing that annoys me is that Wilder spoke about not making changes against Stoke to kill the game or get some fresh legs on, that was what we were crying out for tonight in the last 5 plus injury time.

A point away to Watford would have been a good result, he needs to stop this whole 'I don't want to play like that' when it comes to these situations.

Wing backs do, and we’re strong enough everywhere else, we just need more depth.

We lost two massively influential players tonight, and still competed against probably the best side in the league, away, who have at least two players good enough for the prem.

Please tell me how 1 win so far is going anywhere ?
You basing it purely on results, I would be inclined to agree. But the performance is better, the attacking play is better, the movement when working in triangles, you can see they work it forward, rather than backward. When Mcnair went midfield, we lost that dynamism and forward play. Its where we need another option, and Onyeka might fit the bill.

Muniz looked great up front. We are a better team than 12 months ago, we had 2 injuries tonight which exposed where we are still short. I don't like where we are, but we will improve.

If ever a game demonstrated fine margins then that was it.

One minute we are fairly content with a solid point away from home then in the space of 10 seconds we went from Muniz trying for a worldie to them getting a lucky break and winning the game.

We looked really really good at times tonight but need to concentrate from first to last. Once they learn that we will hopefully start getting the results some of our positive play deserves

In our 7 games and from whatever I've seen from the live games, there hasn't been a team that's impressed me at all (The first half at QPR was just us being crap)

Sheff Utd look like the team to beat but even they weren't anything special

That's fair enough, but that doesn't mean we should be beating them all either.

Ideally Akpom would have been fit and on the bench to come on and give a physical presence. But I do think with the way we were playing Watmore would have held on to the ball, kept things more simple and likely would have won free kicks to eat up more time.

Watmore for McGree would have helped us defend from the front better, so that could have worked as well.

I wouldn't want to take that kind of thing out of Muniz' game. And I hope he isn't criticised by Wilder for it. I think his willingness to try the unexpected will be a real plus for us this season. Just not tonight.

We need those new midfielders in they could make all the difference if we don't get them then we can forget going up
