The Gazette is finished the Northern Echo is the go to paper/website for Boro news

I've only caught a few of the post-matches this season because I tend not to listen when we lose, but I liked her contributions, it's nice to have some in depth fan opinion on it.

Usually just reading out aggressive texts and tweets whilst waiting for the manager to interview otherwise.
I like her comments.

It is just Maddo. He gets splinters from sitting on the fence.

His grammar and phrases makes me cringe.

I’d rather have Slaven or Hignett covering the Boro on BBC Tees.

I meant the fanzine this board is named after. She writes for Rob.

I genuinely think the club leaked it to the Gazette to gauge public opinion. If it had been accepted by the fanbase I think he would have been appointed before the weekend. Surely if it was going to be Cattermole he would have been appointed by now?
Honestly, if they needed some newspaper inches to get a feel for how well Lee Cattermole would go down as manager after Chris Wilder, they’re so much more out of touch than even I thought.

Theres no aggression, I thought she must have been a female player. She's seems to know here stuff but is she needed every week why not give other people a turn.
Apologies for calling it aggressive, I just read it as that at the time.

I could be wrong but I do think she studied journalism at Teesside University as well. I'm not sure she's there purely as a fan.

She also pops up on ITV regional news, speaks very well.

I also don't understand what makes her an expert? She's a fan like me and everyone else on here so why does she get to air only her opinions? Bores me to death having people close to the club spouting off stuff that makes things seem better than they are or not asking the right questions.

The gazette have been abysmal for years the disgusting xenophobic hatchet job, on Victor Orta when he left was one of the worst pieces of journalism i have ever read, even worse was i am sure it was done at the behest of the club.
Spot on there like.

I’m sure he’s having the last laugh, loving life at Leeds and linked with every job from Chelsea to Sevilla.

That article was unbelievable.

I'm not sure it was aggressive.
We have an employee of the club as Expert Summariser. He can't openly operate in the post match section where he has a real conflict of interests where there is criticism of the club.
Then there is Paul Addison who sneers at any critic of the Club.
Now we have Dana, to make up the cast of "All kinds of everything". I genuinely don't see why she is on as a fixture now. Former player? Former manager? Football expert? Skilled journalist?
If there was a rolling slot for a fan to be included then fine, she could take her turn, but an ongoing regular?
I would argue skilled journalist rather than filling a slot as a fan, see my previous post about that.

Agree with you on Maddo though, it doesn’t help that he’s employed by the club.

I’ve just read an Echo article from Friday, in which it says Boro called a “temporary halt” to the managerial search before the Blackburn game. Why would they do this? Surely it’s an ongoing issue.

And this is part of the problem IMO; there is absolutely no communication or clarity from anyone involved in running the club. What on earth are they doing back there.
Posted this on Friday:

To me the delay in appointing someone points to a couple of scenarios. We either:

Fired Wilder on a whim without lining up anyone. Which, whether you believe the narrative that Gibbo went off him with the Burnley stuff in March or not, still isn’t great because we’d had months of very poor results and pretty obvious friction.

Or, Scott has a candidate, Gibson doesn’t like it and has his own candidate. Which isn’t great at all.

Or, we’re struggling to get our target in - whether that’s because of the structure we’re trying to put in, whether we’re just not that attractive a club, or reasons unknown. Which again really isn’t great. Don’t fire a manager with no plan if the whole point of a DoF is continuity, and if good managers don’t like the look of your structure… maybe it’s your structure that’s the problem.

We’ll see what happens when someone gets the job, but it looks like a shambles at the minute.

The delay is simply down to the fact that there are few decent options, very few in fact.
One look at this board, Clattermole and Drunken Duncan to name but two, tells you it's a struggle to find the right man or woman.
And if we don't win 5 on the bounce the bedwetters will be all over Gibson again.

There’s a million decent options. Lee Cattermole and Duncan Ferguson aren’t the only two available would-be managers in world football. I mean come on, we’re supposed to be an ambitious club.

Names please?
Oh I’d go Corberan, Hughton, Marcelino, Dyche, and that’s even applying the Gibson filter of managers who are out of work and mostly know the Championship.

For ones who have a job but might be interested I don’t know enough of the highly rated young coaches around, but then I’m not a Director of Football. I’d ask Rooney if he fancies coming home though.

The Boro job always had the reputation of a good job with a great chairman. That might have changed over the last few years.

The local press coverage of us has been bizarre for years, they spent years constantly criticising the ownership of Sunderland and Newcastle while giving us a completely free ride and still continue to do so

I think the Gazette is a nasty local rag which I avoid like the plague.

I similarly like to avoid the local radio football coverage - cheap, amateurish parochial embarrassment much of the time.

Maddison in particular is like some sort of embarrassing caricature, I can’t listen to him.

I obviously don't catch anything of the conversation on there for away games but when I get back in the car after home games, they do generally talk a load of nonsense and club biased rubbish.

I'm not expecting the ridiculous 'Gibbo needs to sell up" that you get from fans that haven't even seen the team kick a ball, but Maddison won't have anyone questioning the club or the players during the phone in. "You can't say that, they're young lads, they're giving their all" and "I've been in dressing rooms like that and I know, those lads are hurting but get behind them because they're good players and the season isn't as bad as you think".

On Saturday there was also some back handed mocking of disgruntled texts coming in from Paul Addison.
Just as an aside WB, not sure if you have an I-phone and Apple play in your car.
If you do, you can get the after match phone in from anywhere via the Radio Play App. I normally listen after away games whilst driving home. I would imagine there is a similar set up on Google play for those with Android phones.
Just a thought…

Maddo the Darlo lad, going all plastic on the Boro with chatting like pebbles from the Flintstones.

The Gazette/North Korean PR machine. Kept going by the deaths column and anyone over 50 buying it to see who has died

Mind you it does have the what is the best parmo in the town and photos from the nighties when you try and find the girl you once fingerblasted in the erection section in the Empire.

I don't think there is anything in particular that makes her an expert, she's a fan, exactly the same as you or I. However, it's good to get some fan opinion on there that is considered and articulate.

I can see why she keeps coming back on as the alternative is often "whaddaya think 'ov that Maddo? I rekkon we was poor today like". I'm not saying all of the callers are at that level but there are some that struggle to string a coherent sentence together.

BBC Tees has to fill the airtime with some decent content so I've no issues. No different to in the past when there was a guy from the Gazette's 'punters panel' (John Taylor was it?) who popped up everywhere in the local press and on radio offering fan opinion. He got gigs for the same reason as Dana, he was articulate and could make some good points that widen the debate.

You now hear her voice more than anybody else it seems. I don't want to, so now switch off after any manager interview I catch.
