The Blue Card is coming to the game

Im sure the rules are already a yellow card for a cynical foul and dissent, the problem is the referees dont enforce it and when they do its only against certain teams. If they applied the laws fairly they wouldnt need another card, its stupid.

Another change to try and correct players behaviour instead of just enforcing the rules they already have. Even if they didn't want to change things in game they could review every match and hand out proper punishments for all the diving, dissent, time-wasting etc. Doesn't even have to affect the game itself. Just dish out bans and their behaviour will change. Basic game theory states that anyone playing a game will find a way to use the rules to gain an advantage so you just need to control the bad behaviour by enforcing the rules but football already has all the rules in place. They don't need to add more. I'd be all for adjusting the punishments so diving and dissent were given lengthier bans. It's madness really that even when you are caught cheating the punishment is only a yellow card.

100%.

Slowly but surely, the new rules of football are ruining our beautiful game.

VAR has slowed our game down, with every decision scrutinised. and now this, new laws of the game to be introduced with a new Blue card.

Silly rule changes, someone justifying their jobs, the game wasn't broken for over 100 years..... so stop trying to fix it!!!!!

This morning we find that little blue pills can delay the onset of Alzheimer's now we learn that little blue cards will solve all the problems in football!!1

What a day to be alive

The idea is right - i.e. punish those fouls with more than a yellow - but has been pointed out, teams down to 10 men will just low-block for 10 minutes and waste time. thereby ruining the game in a different manner. It effects the game negatively whenever its a 10v11 situation.
I rather enjoyed it at the SoL this season, though Sunderland fans may disagree.

I haven't seen any so far. It relieved the pressure on the other side on Tuesday which may have had an effect on the result

I haven't seen many sin bins at Thornaby in recent seasons, maybe because they are so well behaved now:cool:. When it first came in, the referees were very quick to use it and lots of players were spending time in the bin. The players all seem to accept it though and it can diffuse some nasty situations.

I am sure that the full time pros will be better at minimising the period down to 10 men than the Northern league players. However I can imagine the delays and controversy that it will cause at top level will far outweigh any benefit we get in northern league.

Like EVERY single rule change, it will be complete chaos as the refs are unable to discharge the rules properly. Look at the current situation with dissent, going down "injured" time wasting etc.

I'm probably in the minority here as I actually like the idea, they have it the Russel Forster Kids league and one of our players, u13, got a sin bin for asking it the ref was f***ing deaf last week.

The referee in the game at Sunderland this year showed that there is already a way in the laws to deal with dissent. What's the point in bringing in new laws when there is already a law in place, which the majority of referees choose not to use.
I think you've answered your own question. Yellow cards are underused because refs worry about the consequences of 2nd yellows and the inevitable scrutiny that results. If blue cards make refs less insecure they could be a good thing.

Some rule changes work and stick:

Genuinely think the back pass rule and the "not interfering offsides" have been good for the sport.

Others don't work as well - trials of advancing the ball for dissent etc.

Almost all world sports have gradually adapted their rules over their history - it is part of sport.

It's like a ICE Hockey Powerplay - it will likely be attack vs defence for 10 mins - but they are some of the best periods of Hockey.

They can make the timing work easily enough.

Changes I'd make would be a yellow card for any offence made not trying to play the ball. Pulling shirts, tripping players, deliberate handball (not the ridiculous handball decisions given by VAR when it strikes the hand), questioning the ref (aside from the captain), time wasting, kicking the ball away after the whistle, blocking a player from attempting to play the ball.

Most of the offences listed were introduced in the 70's, they're now happening throughout football, throughout the match.

Do that and there's no need for a blue card. We just need a less corrupt FA and media who back the referees.
I'd add to that, anyone touching the ball who is not taking the set piece after the whistle is blown. Teams throwing the ball about between each like they are bloody slip fielders trying to get the ba$tard to reverse swing!

Or the absolutely ludicrous throwing the ball back to someone taking a free kick and hoying it 50 foot in the air.

All refs decisions are subject to scrutiny so I think that's irrelevant. They simply need to be instructed to enforce the laws properly.

Quite shocked how many people are so resistant to change!

It’s a very different game now to when the rules were drafted in the Victorian Era, and don’t forget it’s only being trialed for a period, in the FA Cup. If it’s terrible, we can put it down to a failed experiment.

Some of you though, proper dinosaurs arn’t yas!
