For cycnical fouls in a 'promising' position
and selected dissent

10 mins sin bin - to be tested next season

Utter rubbish - team down to 10 men, everyone behind the ball for that period, time wasting with the keeper etc.
And - can you imagine VAR? Is it a red or blue...

I though they were doing 'orange cards' but not in the top leagues?

I wonder why they chose blue. I think a sin bin is sensible. But once again ambiguity of cynical foul / dissent will be an issue.

I wonder how many blues you are allowed. Probably worth taking a few blues for the team.

We have the sin bin in the Northern League for stroppy players who can't control themselves when addressing the referee.

The game at the top level has changed so much in sporting terms that these changes are more important to the game than the ridiculous VAR.

I can’t think of one sensible thing for the introduction of sin bins. Lots of negatives tho -
added complexity
more arguments and discussion red/yellow/blue?
the punishment is for the fans who, for 10 mins, have to watch a team get 10 men behind the ball and time waste. Horrible for the game.

it works in Rugby because the odds are stacked against a team with 14 men for 10 mins and almost always concede points. It’s a proper punishment for the offending player’s team.

I haven't seen the ten men behind the ball happen in the Northern League to be fair.

what about cynical fouls in the opposition half. man city being the masters of. no way are they "blue" carding that

you could just have a player go down "injured" for 10 minutes to use the time up too

it won't work unless the clock stopped for breaks in play for a start

Use of green cards/ sin bin in rugby and hockey are ideal for dissent and it is generally much better controlled when used well. Clock stops in hockey quite regularly which means you cant run it down as easily.

I'm not sure why they dont just use a yellow card effectively in these situations though. Just penalise people for cheating and for dissent.

What they should have done for professional fouls or dissent, is award the other team a direct free kick from the edge of the D. No wall allowed, all players behind the freekick taker. So just the kicker and the keeper facing each other.. sort of like a longer-ranged penalty kick.

Harder to score than a penalty, but should still deter defenders from committing fouls when a player is through on goal and brought down outside the box.

I quite like it. *Ducks for cover*

Sometimes a game is completely ruined by something silly that doesn't warrant a red card, but needs something stronger than a yellow.

They can make the timing work easily enough.

Changes I'd make would be a yellow card for any offence made not trying to play the ball. Pulling shirts, tripping players, deliberate handball (not the ridiculous handball decisions given by VAR when it strikes the hand), questioning the ref (aside from the captain), time wasting, kicking the ball away after the whistle, blocking a player from attempting to play the ball.

Most of the offences listed were introduced in the 70's, they're now happening throughout football, throughout the match.

Do that and there's no need for a blue card. We just need a less corrupt FA and media who back the referees.

The idea is right - i.e. punish those fouls with more than a yellow - but has been pointed out, teams down to 10 men will just low-block for 10 minutes and waste time. thereby ruining the game in a different manner. It effects the game negatively whenever its a 10v11 situation.
