The absence of Becks

Doesn't most lager taste the same? I mean I'm partial to one on a hot summers day and I might be able to tell the difference between a good German/Czech lager compared to the standard supermarket lagers but genuinely don't think I could tell the difference between Becks, Madri, Heineken, San Miguel etc
I bet you could tell they were 4 different drinks, colour & taste, if not which was which.

Madri literally wasn’t a thing when I was home last so I’m intrigued.

Still can’t beat a Staropramen or Pilsner Urqual for me if I’m doing lager.

Madri had zero presence in Madrid which confused some Spanish friends when they went to the UK and saw this brand absolutely everywhere.

Guess it’s the same as Foster’s and Australia.

I'd wager the Cruzcampo bears absolutely zero resemblance to the Cruzcampo here.

What's the thing with "Spanish" lagers on draught ? - I believe you can get Estrella over there now and my son tells me he can get Victoria (Malaga brewery) in a pub near him in Hampshire ...... it'll have been nowhere near Malaga and taste totally different

Madri has absolutely nothing to do with Spain, its sudden popularity is the result of a very clever (and somewhat cynical) marketing exercise.

The rumour in the beer world is it's just Coors Light with added hop extract. Really wouldn't surprise me if that was true.

For the brief period in the early 2000s when I didn't know any better and drank Becks, it always tasted metallic.

At the end of the day it's all mass produced macro rubbish.

You can get Victoria Malaga in Sainsbury's, in bottles. It's brewed in Malaga and imported. I believe the cask version is brewed by the UK arm of Damm brewery though (where they brew the UK version of Estrella Damm)

Time for a sharp exit? Time for a cool, sharp Harp. This tagline somehow still pops into my consciousness maybe once a month, every month.
