The 9am figures not disclosed yet?

As of 9am on 29 April, 4,414,242 people have tested positive for COVID-19 in the UK.

Positive cases were 2,445 (2,729 on corresponding day last week).

22 deaths were reported today (18 on corresponding day last week)

151,243 deaths with Covid-19 on the death certificate (up to 16 April)

34,094,048 have had a first dose vaccination. 134,140 first dose vaccinations yesterday. 14,043,961 have had a second dose. 462,885 second dose vaccinations today.

There's been a couple of days lately when figures were up on the same time on the same day the previous week.
After a couple of days when they're down again, I'm feeling more confident that these were blips rather than the start of an upturn following the easing of lockdown 2 weeks ago.

Not sure if would bother me if cases started rising again. It's about the health impact now not the r number, I would have thought.

Yeah it looks like vaccines are starting to break the link between cases and hospitalisations. I'd happily have thousands of cases a day if the affects of the disease were not deadly

Good point. However, I don't think rate of infection is irrelevant. For a virus, replication means the possibility of mutation, and that's something we want to avoid.

Should we read anything into that very slight uptick in the 7 day average for new deaths?

Not for me. Now we're down to relatively small numbers of deaths, I think random fluctuations can result in a small uptick without representing any trend as such.

I think I panicked a little the other day Frozen.

Billy will give us the 7 day average for new deaths later hopefully however I think it will be below 20.

Obviously this is a very emotive subject and I'm desperate not to upset folk with an ignorant comment but are we at the point now where the average daily death rate is unlikely to get much lower?

There may be room for further improvement as the vaccination programme reaches further into the population.

Given the amount of testing I am amazed that infection rates are still falling.
