Sunderland vs Coventry

I can’t see any club in the championship expecting £20m up front but I’m assuming we’ve probably got better deals overall for the strikers coming overall
Burnley got nearly 20 million upfront for Nathan Collins, a centre back. Adam Webster went for more than that couple of seasons ago. A centre back. Other clubs would of got more for Spence and Tav. Keanu Lewis potter went for 15 mill I think? Gyokores has the potential to demand a fee for 20 mil

2 years left on his contract, they don't want to sell, I don't think we've got the pull of a Premier League club where they basically feel forced to sell because of player power.

If Coventry don't sell him, Gyokeres is still playing in the same division and can still put himself in the shop window for a bigger move.

We'd need to offer stupid money to convince Coventry, or stupid wages to make Gyokeres really agitate for the move.

. Those players you mentioned though did goto prem clubs rather than championships clubs .I suppose any deal can still be financed and paid upfront

I know and Coventry will feel they can demand that kind of fee from a Prem club either now or next season. Only way we sign him is if we mega bucks and we won’t do that so in my opinion it’s a non starter hence why we are going for other targets

Gyokeres and Riis both scored 20 goals in mid table teams. Both had excellent games again us. One will cost double the other, probably more when you take into account the overall package.

Gyokeres is an excellent player, his goal today proved that. But would you rather have 5-6 players in to boost a paper thin squad or 2-3 including one who, if it doesn't work out, could cripple the club for the term of his contract?

He may well go to the top, but with us.......think he could be out of our range.🤷🏻‍♂️🤷🏻‍♂️
I'd much rather Gyokeres than relying on Forss and Hoppe who are as likely to end up like the useless Ashley Fletcher as turn a profit.
I'd rather invest money in Gyokeres than spend it on loans, or projects that might one day come off.

We have bought big badly in the past and been burnt.
But we've bought lots of bad projects too.

We lost as much money on Fletcher, Aliadiere and Digard as we did on Assombolonga.

It is about picking the right ones, not bloody models.

There is such little imagination and ambition.
Gyokeres for an initial £12.5m with sensible structured add ons based on what he does and what we do is realistic and presents value.
That would hit our P&L by £2.5m this year if he signed a 5 year deal.

Most fans don't seem to grasp the financial boost the club has just got.
£22.5m THIS season.
This presents Gibson with the biggest boost to potentially get out of the division and stop his death spiral of propping up losses every year in the Championship.
I don’t think anyone is saying not to spend the money we got from Tav and Spence, we’re saying it should be spread across 5-6 players of the right age that can all grow in value and boost the squad. Blowing well over 50% of it on a fella that has had one good season is reckless.

I’ll take 5-6 Forss type of deals over Gyokeres and 1-2 Forss types. If they don’t work out then they’re a lot easier to move on from than Gyokeres would be.

How do you know anything about this?

I look forward to being enlightened?

How much do Coventry want?

How much can we afford?

You have said a number of times that many of our supporters are poorly informed about FFP.

I admit I know next to nothing but I did listen to the manager on Friday saying it is fairly complex area of how the football club is run and made reference to Derby and their fall from grace.

Bottom line how do you know we can afford him?

I get this, but why would gykores want to come to boro?,were a very similar level to cov

Good strikers cost money always have always will. It’s the one position where you can buy the finished article.

Exactly,
and that is why they are so precious.
But there is always the odd weed in the flower bed pretending to be a flower.
We`ve certainly bought a few weeds impersonating strikers in recent years.......

I get what you are saying, but Forss and Hoppe will be (probably) 3rd and 4th choice forwards with 1 and 2 to be brought in.

We have a transfer budget of about £20-30m and need 5-6 players. Gyokeres would take 3? of these players leaving a big signing and a couple of others. We can't do it unless we go down the free/loan route to the max.

And again, he has to fit the system. He might, I don't know. But if he doesn't........

Lot of eggs in one basket......not at this moment in time. Would be nice if we were in the position to do it, but squad needs too many bodies in.

Other clubs would of got more for Spence and Tav.
Why make stuff up? You cannot possibly know. Just nonsense.

If we can't afford Gyokeres, we can't afford him. Not just about the transfer fee but whatever he is expecting in wages. Forrss and Hoppe between them will probably cost less than Fletcher and unless they turn out to be utterly hopeless we should get some money back, much less of a risk than putting all your faith in Gyokeres.

How am I making it up 😂. It’s an opinion. Hull got 15 mill for lewis Potter. Spence and Tav should of been sold for more than him and I truly believe we totally undervalued Tav and could and should of got more.

I guess at the end of the day, the ball is in Coventry’s court. If they are quoting £20M plus, there is not much we can do, as we definitely can’t afford that.

Because it is entirely conjectural. What Hull got for Potter has as much relevance to what we could ask for Spence or Tav as the price for carrots in Waitrose to the price of beer in your local. None.

Problem is you can only go with what people want to pay, especially if the player wants away and you need funds for your own buys. As far as we are aware and have been told, only serious offers were from Spurs and Bournemouth. No one else was interested which affects your bargaining power.
