Stop Posting the Conspiracy Rubbish

are you suggesting we send cancer patients with weak immune systems to hospital (where the lurgy is) for treatment?

this is why if we stick together, keep transmission low, treatment can continue. That is going out the window again fast.
Might it be an idea to send the cancer patients with weak immune systems to the places that they usually attend for treatment and isolate the covoid patients in Nightingale hospitals ? It is what they were built for after all.

We have people wanting to put the whole of the UK into "lockdown". Why would you put many places in the south under further restrictions when they have few cases and no pressure on hospitals? Would be completely bonkers.

nobody wants us in lockdown, it’s something that has to be done though. Should have been done earlier and fir a shorter period of time.

if the whole country goes into lockdown there is no ambiguity about the rules from area to area.

My daughter does it - not just in a mask but in full PPE, sometimes for 6 days a week and occasionally for shifts lasting over 12 hours, spent mostly in the ICU and/or Casualty.
I’m on my 8th week of 12 hours in a mask, 7 days a week. It’s not great, but is a minor inconvenience,

I beg to differ.
Have a browse on social media. You'll see loads of people have been clamouring for it for it since the kids went back to school and young adults went back to uni.

Well, they've gone and done it when just when it looks like "cases" are close to plateau. See Tim Spector (he behind the ZOE app)......

As I always say, best to look at a number of metrics ........

And we're going into a national lockdown due to "exponential growth", "rising cases"? .....................

Ah Tim Spector you say?
He’s already been completely written off and discredited on here by a couple of new posters (along with other legitimate peer reviewed research papers and studies, and well informed scientists who have far more of a grasp of the real picture than *most* of us on here)
I mean, what does Spector and his team know? Aside from having 4.3 million + users of his app, and over 1 million plus people updating it every single day with live data, and running the most acceptably reliable symptom tracking and infection measuring system throughout this pandemic, which has been broadly in line with the ONS data and accepted as as good an indication of what’s actually happening as anything, by most of the scientific community. In fact, his data was good enough for SAGE and Independent SAGE for a long time. What’s changed??

Nope, I’m afraid we are going to completely ignore his work and data in favour of non peer reviewed scaremongering ‘96k per day currently’ disproven tosh from ICL because a couple of posters on here wrote him off.

Honestly, it’s like some people are desperate to believe the worst case scenarios peddled by the media and just completely ignore all other reasonable measurements or the actual evidence of what is happening.
Let’s hope the numbers do actually plateau and start reducing ASAP.

There seems to have been a bizarre phenomenon appear during this pandemic, where some people would appear to want the worst case scenarios to play out simply so they can say ‘see, told you so!’ to anybody who actually looks at more sources of data and listens to what all sides of the scientific community have to say and tries to get a fuller picture, rather than just swallowing all the media headlines.

You aren’t allowed to believe this is a deadly virus, respect it, follow all the rules (whether you agree with them or not), wear your mask, socially distance, help your neighbours etc AND question SOME of the headlines or narrative that is being fed to us. Nope, if you are in that group, you are clearly an evil conspiracy theorist responsible for this mess.
Apparently.

I beg to differ.

they dont want to go into lockdown, but understand it’s required. Then you get others who don’t want to as they think there is another way, but can’t quite explain exactly how to deploy the idea, then you have those who don’t want it as the wrongly think it’s a hoax/cold/flu.

649 hcw have died in the UK due to covid. How many die in a normal flu season?

belgium are now reportedly 10 days away from health system collapse.

I think you are right and this is the biggest issue - there still isn’t a viable alternative to lockdown in this country, really, that works and sits well amongst the masses.
If there is even a small risk than the NHS will become overrun, then surely you have to use anything in your armoury to combat that and unfortunately at the moment, lockdown seems to be the only option that is accepted (how effective they are, is a whole different argument)

Question is what have the NHS been doing for the past 4 months? Preparation doesn't seem to have happened.

One thing mentioned on Saturday was dilution of ICU teams so the limited number of trained nurses can cover more patients.
I just wonder why we haven't asked the private sector for assistance instead of diluting? Or ask other countries for help? I remember Cuba and China sending teams of doctors and nurses to Italy in the Spring.

The private sector ICU facilities were "nationalised" in March/April. Not sure if they were used. The BMA have generally been scathing about the involvement of the private sector in supporting the covid-19 response.

Realistically what could a badly underfunded healthcare system do in 4 months to prepare for a pandemic?
I'm just relaying what we were told. First lockdown was the flatten the curve and protect the NHS (bizzare I know). It was obvious in the Spring that this winter would be a tough one with flu season as normal plus the possibility that covid would still be around then. Well Winter is here now and flu season is kicking off and covid is still here.
If I was as woefully inept as those in charge of the NHS at preparation I would be given my p45.
