So who went to the pub?

I did not go out last night but the virtue signalling on this board by the expected people who are still in denial on this board needs to take a step back. You're sounding more and more like tyrants.
Now let's do the sensible thing and open the gyms so people can get healthy and prepare for winter.

Virtue signalling, really! Disappointing you went there. There are some of us who have partners or close family that would be put at significant risk were we to bring the virus home. It is still about in society and I suspect we will see a growth in the r rate in places around the country as areas try to normalise.

The economy needs to open up, people need to get back to work, yes. However those pictures make it clear that even if you personally wanted to be sensible, some of those around you don’t. I doubt anyone is virtue signalling, in reality they are speaking from a rational personal perspective. The deaths are still coming, and they are not all in the over 70’s age group. I would sooner have a more sheltered life than a return to pre-covid life and an early death for me or my loved ones. It is possible to relax rules and open up. Social distancing for now should be mandatory to achieve what we all want ultimately.

I agree with you about gyms though, they just need to social distance people and be strong on cleanliness.

Yeah I'm still yet to see any pictures on the news this morning of rammed A+E's.

Funny how people who have gone to the pub and restaurants are an easy target but nothing said about those who queued up in the masses outside of hairdressers.

I'm off to work in an hour after 100+ days. Can't wait. 180 booked in today last I checked. Gonna be a great day.

Hope you have a good day!

Randy - But don't you feel let down when you see pubs blatantly disregarding social distancing when other places have spent a small fortune getting their establishments ready.

I do and I said it was going to happen. The badly run establishments only care about the profit margins whereas the well ran places care about profits, staff happiness and been a place for the community to gather
Our place has spent money out of the owners own pockets on stuff like hand sanitizer, face masks/shields. The owners have basically worked for nothing during the time we were shut too doing takeaways just to keep a trickle of money coming in.
What ***** me off is it's always the hospitality industry that gets the flack, usually from people who A) don't use pubs and restaurants for whatever reason or B) hypocrites jumping on a bandwagon.

The problem is not the industry or those that work in it, it is usually a small but arrogant section of their customers

Wonderful no use of the term “virtue signaling “ to describe people not wanting a deadly virus to be spread due to people breaking social distancing rules.
You say “virtue signalling” I say “not being an idiot”
I don’t know maybe you just don’t understand how viruses are spread. Fair enough

Exactly, same in any industry but anything happens in ours it's always unfairly amplified.

Pubs don’t break social distancing rules.
Much like supermarkets, clothes shops et al - some people break the rules.

I've been looking at photos on social media this morning of freinds and family out last night. It looked like they were all behaving and having a good time. They were also hugging each other and had arms around each other. Alcohol and social distancing dont work.

As a said last night my local followed the guidelines to the letter, which did surprise me as it does get a few 'morons' in there from time to time. Speaking to the landlord this morning, he said most of the youngsters had gone in to Nottingham or Mansfield (both of which had a few issues) which meant he had his usual maturer customers and they sat outside mostly and never had more than two people at the bar.

I am not sure any social rules and alcohol go together in any environment, pub, home or garden. It is the sad state of affairs we now find ourselves in.

Give it a fortnight to see the results. Still too early for me.
It seems that the numbers will only significantly go up if large numbers of people act like this.

The reason our peak hasn't trailed off is that we have a large number of people being sensible, while at the same time we have a sizeable minority being stupid. Most people behaving stops it getting out of hand, but it also is the reason we haven't got single figure deaths like France or Spain. We have had similar restrictions to those countries, yet haven't been able to reduce deaths and infections.

The problem with this is that there are too many infected and if the greater population start to ease, it will ravage again in a second wave, very quickly.
