Scotland v England

Good game that, really enjoyed it. I wish we played the likes of Scotland, Germany, Argentina etc in friendlies more often.

First half we looked brilliant, Bellingham is an absolute joy to watch I really wish he was playing in England and not abroad.

I thought Kyle Walker was the second best player in the pitch though, has to be the best right back in the world at the minute?

Those 2 halves of football highlighted the real Maguire issue and it's not his defending. He just kills moving the ball about at the back and our play becomes much more ponderous. It's like watching Dael Fry trying to play out.

Not for the first time

This really needs to be a lesson to Gareth... the team you're picking for competitive games isn't your best XI.
He has constantly developed the side slowly during his time in charge gradually introducing players but keeping a spine that knows each other.

This has led to him being hugely successful.

I personally think at international level that is our best midfield 3 by far - but everyone was on his back for picking Philips.

Philips and rice... Unleash Bellingham...

Then Foden and one other supporting Kane.

If you look at the gradual development of the team over Southgates tenure I think he deserves great credit. You can't just pick the 11 form players you have to gradually develop a team.

If he doesn't try and stop it and a Scotland player scores, he would get a load of stick again.
Poor man management in my opinion, 2 nil up and looking really comfortable what could Maguire add to that. Southgate didn’t need to make the change and yes the own goal is unlucky but if he just stays on the bench it doesn’t happen.

The journalists and Twitter warriors will have a field day and it all could have been so easily avoided.

This is the wrongest take I've ever seen.

England have got the ability to pick the best XI in world football it's that simple. The only thing that gets in the way is Gareth's selections.

It's been that way for 3 years at least. The guy has under achieved.

A challenge to the Gareth fans... name me a better XI that any other manager has for his team selection on international football. You can't.

On paper England beat France, it's that simple.

P.s. all the lads in the studio know it. This generation is the genuine golden generation

Do you think that the bloke he replaced might have got a knock?

Why oh why wasn’t Jude in that starting 11 against Italy in the Euro’s final?!

Many on here (including myself) were hoping Southgate plumped for him pre game. Age is just a number and the fact he was 16/17 was irrelevant. He’s incredible.

He’s going to go on and become one of England’s greatest ever players. He’s at the perfect club to progress and get better. He’s already a leader and experience is the only thing that’s lacking - which will come in time.

He’s a Ballon D’or winner in the making, that I have no doubt.

As for Maguire - sorry, it’s not even unlucky now. The bloke isn’t good enough. He hasn’t been for years and he never will be. He’s the biggest downfall with Southgate. He needs to cut his cloth with Harry and move on.

Bloody hell.

Since 98 France have won 2 World Cup and been in two other finals.

They have won 1 European championships and been in one other final.

They have been in another 2 or 3 semi finals.

England, in comparison, have been in 1 World Cup Semi Final and 1 European Championship final.

It’s English exceptionalism to think England are better than anyone else. Other nations have better mentalities and Southgate has been working to change that.

Did anyone else wonder what Bellingham was doing when he turned away from the goal?

Just saw the goal again and it looks even better.

Good to see Gareth has proven the ‘fans’ wrong yet again. Haven’t read the thread (I’m sure the anti-Southgate types will lack any objectivity or grace) but he set us up right, we stifled scotlands attack, created loads of chances and could have won by more. Proven right that rice and Philips can dominate midfield, both played well in that role, Foden played well from the right and in fact his crossover run got him the space for his goal. Pretty much everything Gareth planned worked. Everyone will get their wish and Maguire will be retired off in the next 6 months probably once stones is back as Dunk has played himself into contention. Well done Sir Gareth 👍
