If you were flying from the US to the UK via Amsterdam, you didn't have to immigrate, just change planes. You only have a security check to cope with.

If you are travelling on in the EU then you have to immigrate at the point you enter the EU. So passports out for stamping (assuming you have a UK passport).

So you were wrong.

55 minutes will be tough. Not only for you but for your luggage making it too!

A lot will depend which runway the plane lands. If it’s the far runway it takes about 10 minutes to get on stand. You probably won’t make it then.

Forgot to mention. I had similar situation at Frankfurt recently. I just jumped the immigration queue to make sure I made the flight.

I asked the staff and they said it’s up to the other passengers. All were fine when I explained I had ten minutes to make my flight.

You will definitely make the flight as long as you take off on time on your first flight. All taxiing is factored in to the flight time on your booking.

If you are only taking hand luggage you will be ok. If you've got luggage in the hold then it's a 50/50 chance of it making it to Italy.

Schipol is massive. 55 mins is just about doable but the chances of your luggage making it are almost zero.

Case lost more than any other airport closely followed by CDG

Hand luggage only it’s doable if everything’s on time and no queues. With suitcases you’ve no chance.

UK to Italy so I think I have to clear internal security again.

Just been through today, took 1hr 15m from landing to exiting passport checks, which there was a longish queue for.

You could save 20-25 mins if you are allowed to skip the line at passport checks.

If you have a tight connection then the security team will let you through ahead of the queue. 55 mins is still tight. My usual transfer time is 1hr 30 mins but I have done it in less than an hour. KLM are very rarely on time now so you may find that the connection is delayed anyway.

Wrong.
Different queues for EU and non EU.

Today it took nearly 90 mins to clear immigration there.
But the auto eu lanes were not working and they only had 2 booths open so the EU people were queuing longer.

You weren't entering the EU. You were in transit.
