Sam Greenwood

Pretty bizarre signing IMHO unless its with an option to buy at a set price

Carrick has gone on record as saying it makes no sense to improve players from other teams then send them back

He's scored 1 career goal at 21 years old, so i guess he must be a midfielder?

This being a loan is a pretty depressing revelation....

We're now loaning potential talent and have bought potential talent but not only that we're loaning potential talent that can't get anywhere near a fellow championship teams match day 20.

NOT ONLY THAT but to add to that he's going to compete directly with a player we've bought who specifically is meant to be a potential talent who we're developing.

Interesting that the Leeds 'buy youth model' has yet to really pay off.
They spent millions on top young talents but I guess you never really know who is going to make it?

from Leeds forum
Watched a lot of him in the U21s where he stood out along with a few more, after their call ups, all have struggled, Sam isn't blessed with pace and is awful at backtracking, on the other hand, he's a dead ball specialist which we don't have .
Going out on loan would be the best thing for him imho.

He is a player that has never really stood out imho. He wont be a regular starter unless we have injuries, and all the talk about dead ball specialist ? I'm not sure i would use the word specialist, i haven't seen him produce many moments of class from his deliveries.
If he goes or even stays i wish him all the best though.

I think people forget how highly rated he was at Arsenal and it was a bit of a coup to get him. He'll improve with more first team games. He hasn't had a season elsewhere like Gelhardt and Summerville have.
His reputation as a dead ball player was well known before he arrived, specifically free kicks (all his YouTube things were full of them).
He had taken a few for the first team before today and it came to nothing.
Eventually he was always likely to do something from a set piece but even in the u21s his all round game wasn't particularly special.
Never stood out like Gelhardt did or Summerville or even Jack Clarke who made that level look easy.
He has looked nothing special in the 1st team till today. Every indication he would just fade into obscurity like many before him.
Hopefully his performance today gives him a lift and allows him to build.

Seems a bit of an odd loan this one. I like loans where we are bringing in players to improve the first team and give us a temporary improvement.

Virtually all our loans last season did that apart from Muniz who was a total flop. Mowatt got pushed out eventually by Hackney but at the time of bringing him in he was better than we had and gave us depth in that position. Obviously Giles, Steffan, Archer and Ramsey (when fit) were starters and were upgrades on players we owned.

I'm not sure this fits. It feels like he's a similar profile to Rogers. I assume he's being brought in to.play the no10 role.

I've read he can play in the deep lying playmaker role, so similar to Hackney, He'll be another play with massive versatility that can progress. Anyone have any idea If we have a buy option?

I have no idea about this player, but why would Leeds loan to a rival if he was any good?
yeah was thinking the same seems a bit strange to be honest but guess we have been talking about doing something similar with Coburn and Plymouth according to reports on here

I don’t like this signing

Feels we will develop a rivals talent in our league to the detriment of someone like Gilbert who is ours!

The only way is would make sense is if we sign him as a backup to Coburn so we can then develop coburn by loaning him out
But then why would a leeds reserve come to boro to be a boro reserve?

Unless McGree is off and hes been brought in as a Coburn/McGree back up replacement as he can play in behind as well

He’s been brought in as competition with Rogers and can also play a bit deeper. Not sure where the Coburn comparison comes in. He’s not a target man striker he’s an attacking midfielder
