Sam Greenwood

He’s been brought in as competition with Rogers and can also play a bit deeper. Not sure where the Coburn comparison comes in. He’s not a target man striker he’s an attacking midfielder
The comparison comes in because we don't play tactically that suits a target man role and Coburn needs to become a better allround player to fit into our tactical set up

Nevertheless he is a striker (By Trade)and if he (Coburn) leaves we need another striker to compliment the squad who can drop into that position as Coburn would when we have injuries

Forss is obviously not suited to that role in the teams tactical set up , we all know that because he can't get a look in there, and we have all seen Rogers is not a natural striker or somebody
who has played that role at academy level

Maybe now you can understand my logic, our style comliments s smaller striker who is technically good who can find pockets of space to run into , not somebody to lump
the ball up to , that just isn't how we play

Still not understanding how signing an attacking midfielder is anything to do with Coburn?

Or how signing an attacking midfielder like our current attacking midfielder... On loan... Benefits us at all. Best case scenario he pushes Rogers out of the team because he's good... Which means we don't develop our own signing.

The craziest thing is.... Surely Leeds wouldn't loan him out to us unless we had guaranteed minutes to them!

If this is just a loan that’s an awful deal for us. Actually thought the club were being a bit smarter this window, but back to the same mistakes.

Can’t get in another championship side, he either can’t get into ours or then does well and Leeds get a fortune for him. Either way none of this benefits us long term

I don't think one loan is an awful deal. Ok it isn't free but if it doesn't work (or does work and he goes on to better things) at least it isn't half the squad.

It's not the loan, it's this specific loan being totally idiotic unless it's loan to buy.

Sam Greenwood has joined the club on a season-long loan from Leeds United.

Sam is the second completed signing of the day, following Lewis O’Brien in joining the club.
Sam adds further strength at the top of the pitch for Boro and has played as both an attacking midfielder and as a striker.
The Sunderland-born player started his career with his hometown club’s Academy, but he joined Arsenal as a 16-year-old where he spent two years before moving to Leeds in 2020.
He has made 35 appearances since joining Leeds, including 25 in the Premier League, and was handed his first team debut by Marcelo Bielsa.
Boro head coach Michael Carrick said: “Sam is a really talented player. He’s two-footed and he gives us greater flexibility.
“We’re looking forward to working with both him and Lewis O’Brien, and helping them develop as players.”

Sam Greenwood is a 10, but he can play (and has played) LW RW and ST - so I think the idea is he pushes everyone in the team to perform, or he takes their place.

Was a bit unsure when the news first broke but now he’s here I’m all for supporting him.

It could be another Ramsey situation where he comes in late in the window with no real hype and goes on to be one of our most important players.

Sam was born in Sunderland and started his career with local side Hebburn Town before joining the Black Cats Academy.

He was targeted by Arsenal at the age of 16, and left Sunderland to join the London club for a substantial amount of compensation, reported to be in the region of £500,000.
Sam didn’t make an appearance for the Gunners and he moved to Leeds as an 18-year-old in the summer of 2020.
Signed by Marcelo Bielsa for a seven-figure sum, he made an immediate impact on the Leeds youth set-up by collecting the PL2 Player of the Month award for September 2020.

His Leeds debut came as a second half substitute when they were trailing to Crawley in the FA Cup third round in 2021.
His second appearance came at Arsenal in the Carabao Cup before making his Premier League debut against the same opposition later that season.
Sam’s first Premier League goal came in a 4-3 win against AFC Bournemouth in November 2022 and he made 25 appearances for the Whites in the top-flight.
Sam has also been capped at England for every level from U17 to U21.

He's the Akpom replacement, right? Played in the Premier League, really highly rated by Leeds supporters, the ones I know are very disappointed that they've let him go.

Now we have:

Dieng/Glover/Jones
Smith/Dijksteel
Fry/VDB
Lenihan/McNair
Engel/Coulson
O'Brien/Howson
Hackney/Barlaser
Silvera/Forss
Greenwood/Rogers
McGree/Jones
Latte Lath/Coburn (likely going out on loan though)

Great options across the side there, especially as Silvera/Forss/Greenwood/Latte Lath can all play anywhere across the front line. If we do get another striker in, even better. I still think Gilbert may come in to the side at some point.

Personally, now my only concerns are that we could do with another option at centre back and could do with another striker to compete with Latte Lath if Coburn goes out on loan. Although Forss, Greenwood and Rogers can also play there.

We're damned if we do and damned if we don't with some fans though. This is a really good signing for us, as is the O'Brien signing.

England under 21 - not a typical Championship player and Leeds I don't think will be in Championship for a long period.
