He's correct, it's why vaccines are continually modified. Whether one develops that can evade our vaccine capabilities is another argument for a period in life we may never experienceI am not pretending everything is fine. I trust the science of vaccinations, its worked for decades and will continue to work.
You may not be afraid, but you say "It's fairly likely we will see a variant that will bypass the vaccine". Sounds frightened to me, not withstanding the fact that it's nonsense. How many strains of flu bypass vaccinations?
Flu vaccinations are re-engineered every 2 years. Is there any scientific reason why we can't do the same with a covid vaccination?
As I said, live in fear or live your life, that's your choice.
Thats kind of just proved my point. In the same way the flu vaccine needs to be updated its more than likely we will see the same with covid if or when a variant is resistant to the current vaccines. Hopefully wont mean restrictions until we can vaccinate people but its enough of a problem to suggest that were not completely clear of things just yet, and wont be for a good while yet.I am not pretending everything is fine. I trust the science of vaccinations, its worked for decades and will continue to work.

And want to live under restrictions for the rest of their lives, which is fine, just don't expect everybody else to.Some people on this thread make me think of the below - probably been watching too much BBC.

Stop being so ridiculous. I think that's why I can never take you seriously. Because people are a bit cautious about a virus that seems to be spreading you come up with a stupid "restrictions FOR THE REST OF THEIR LIVES" comment. And want to live under restrictions for the rest of their lives, which is fine, just don't expect everybody else to.

I think that's your problem, and why you appear so objectionable. You can't debate something. You think if someone has a slight disagreement with your world view it means they are at the polar opposite of whatever your world view is. I don't know what your problem is, maybe you can't understand nuance or maybe you just want to be argumentative. You really need to try though. Stop going to extremes in a debate.
I think you're getting confused. And I believe you're doing it on purpose. Taking of extending restrictions until the virus is under control is different to saying we want restrictions for the rest of our lives.People have said they'd be happy with social distancing rules and mask use to continue indefinitely as two examples, those are both restrictions.
But unfortunately for the likes of you ST, who lets not beat around the bush, will be one of the first down the gym, down the pub or whatever taking advantage of the loosening of restrictions, the restrictions are ending, deaths and people been admitted to hospital are falling, the NHS (which is why we locked down) is 'protected', hell even fans will be at the Riverside next season. Oh and the euros and a red hot summer are on the way, it's going to be a great time.
The virus is been beaten, doctors and nurses have worked hard. Vaccines are working, thanks to the scientists around the world who've contributed to the it's quick success.
The focus on Covid variants is becoming an obsession
It is tempting to feel sorry for SAGE, given the criticism they receive from all sides. This week, the fuss is over a meeting they called regarding the B.1.617.2 variant of the coronavirus (among other matters). [...]Read More...unherd.com

Some will be now considering the way we've lived for the past 18 months or so as 'normal' with no problems slipping on a mask, social distancing and sanitising just part of the way of life.People have said they'd be happy with social distancing rules and mask use to continue indefinitely as two examples, those are both restrictions.

I've no issues with hand sanitising, it's just a fancy way of washing your hands which any self respecting human should be doing anyways. Some will be now considering the way we've lived for the past 18 months or so as 'normal' with no problems slipping on a mask, social distancing and sanitising just part of the way of life.
Adjustment to a different way will be slower in some than others. Discarding measures brought in may be frowned upon, particularly by those who have lost someone close.
Time for patience.
Really?Press Conference being held at 5pm. What are we expecting?
No one is stopping you Ziggy go for it.If medical staff on COVID wards and in ICU can wear complete body protection for 12hrs + a day.
I really don’t mind putting on a mask, and observe social distancing for very short periods when out and about.
Wants it called by its number now, not Indian variantJohnson refused to stop flights from India and even took about a week to put it on the red list, then acts all surprised when the Indian variant starts to take hold and spread, like he is disassociating himself from the route cause.
They still needed a negative test, plus the day 2 & day 8 tests. It was mentioned on this page that AUS and NZ didn’t trust the certs used for confirmation of testing clear. We allowed flights to continue coming in from India despite knowing they were infected people on thise flights, apparently because johnson was desperate not to upset the Indians as he's desperate for a good trade deal
They never ever learn, putting peoples lives on the line again and potentially a massive economic step back if this ends in another lockdown, is it down to arrogance, intelligence??? I don’t know what to put it down to??Wants it called by its number now, not Indian variant
Thousands could fly to England from India before it joins Covid travel ‘red list’
