Roadmap may be affected - Indian variant

“Thoughts?” - that it’s time we got on with actual normal life again or we’ll be hiding behind our settees till doomsday

Of course it works to an extent, but we don’t know to what extent it works against different variants, or the level of protection it offers to those who are ill or with compromised immune systems. Signs are good so far but it’s never going to completely fix the problem
You can’t have zero Covid which to me you seem to be implying.

every variant the vaccine has currently shown protection

I hope my satnav updates to this altered roadmap, I’m bluddy sick of ending up in a dead end somewhere near to my intended destination

So no Indian or Chinese takeaways?

Strange that they've been going through such a boom for the last 18 months round here.

And the nail bar round the corner was open when I passed earlier.
We can't call it the Chinese virus remember. ST will have a **** fit although he has no qualms about calling variants Indian or whatever. 😉

That’s what I mean, we are still going to have deaths despite the vaccines. It’s not just a yes or no answer on if they work or not. So many variables to consider. Signs so far seem promising but it’s also fairly likely a variant will bypass the current vaccines at some point

Completely? From everything I read it suggests that the vaccine will, at worst, heavily reduce the symptoms at least.

It’s just another flu once a vaccine is established isn’t it.

Same will happen to the other places that variants are named after.
No it won't. You can't be this naive. Hate crime against Chinese has risen dramatically. All because Trump fuelled the idea that it was China's fault. It is really shameful that you are fanning that hatred.

This is fairly likely is it jm? How likely and where are you getting evidence for this?

You can remain afraid for the rest of your life or live your life.

We are stopping flights from India.......a week on Thursday.
It's that sort of thing I can't understand, they reckon some flights from India had up to 60 people per flight infected and yet we waited a week after deciding to ban flights

It seems that when decisions like that are made, it is in the best interest of the government to fund and isolate anyone who is coming back in the days between redlisting the country and stopping the flights.

Is there a greater risk of a virus mutating outside of the vaccination spectrum if passing freely through a vaccinated population or immune population. This doesn't generally happen with other diseases that have been almost wiped out.

With covid still being widespread around the world, the chances will increase of other variants being created we dont yet know about, which may also be resistant to a vaccine.

At what stage have I said im afraid? If you want to just pretend everything is fine and this will all just magically go away thats absolutely fine. But dont just dismiss anyone being realistic of just being scared to carry on with life.

I am not pretending everything is fine. I trust the science of vaccinations, its worked for decades and will continue to work.

You may not be afraid, but you say "It's fairly likely we will see a variant that will bypass the vaccine". Sounds frightened to me, not withstanding the fact that it's nonsense. How many strains of flu bypass vaccinations?

Flu vaccinations are re-engineered every 2 years. Is there any scientific reason why we can't do the same with a covid vaccination?

As I said, live in fear or live your life, that's your choice.

Actually the fairly likely comment isn't someone being frightened at all. Everything we know about viruses suggests this will be the case
