Redcar & Cleveland and Middlesbrough Council Merger

If they'd proposed a merger with all of the other Teesside boroughs it might make sense. Cleveland shouldn't have been abolished in favour of the separate boroughs for me but the Tories were determined to destabilise the area and it was pushed through. We all know what followed.
What was their official rationale at the time? I was a teenager and didn’t really understand it. I just knew I didn’t need to put Cleveland on forms anymore.

Cleveland should never have been created .

About 15 years ago i was contracting and got to see redcar councils server room. What an absolute disgrace it was i have never seen such a mess of cabling in all my years in IT just absolutely chaotic

Take it you are one of them on big wages and no accountability
I am not on "wages" and I am accountable to those that elect me- I was recently re-elected with the most votes in my area.

I note that you didn't answer my question so will surmise that you don't have any evidence of your accusations. It must have been the pub option!

We tend to meet any new situation by reorganizing, and a wonderful method it can be for creating the illusion of progress while producing confusion inefficiency, and demoralization.
A quote attributed to one Petronius Arbiter, a Roman official at the time of Nero.

I was in my nearly three years into first job at the Dorman Museum in 1974 when the Local Government Act of 1972 under Ted Heath was enacted. This split up the County Borough of Teesside and placed it into Cleveland County Council? - I can't recall the exact name. Teesside had itself only existed since 1968 with the merger of 7 councils and here they were splitting it up again. A monumental waste of time and money.

I remember little of it now, but had to apply for my own job under a different title and move from Dorman to Kirkleatham Hall. I eventually had to sell my great little house 100 yards from Ayresome Park and move to New Skelton when my job was moved to Guisborough. The disruption caused a lot of anxiety for many people, but that was of little concern to the politicians and empire-builders.

No idea what you are getting at, these in this list are experts that we employ, councils are very much legally obliged, we can't after all expect our businesses and residents to uphold the law and conduct their business correctly if we don't do so our self.
So we, like all councils employ people that know the rules and what they are doing to advise and carry out the policies of it's democratically elected executive.

It may be a surprise to you, but executive enjoy an allowance of just over £10k a year, we don't receive council pension either. Councillor allowance in Middlesbrough is amongst the lowest in the UK and the least in the Tees Valley. the current allowance is £7,600 and this year we agreed not to receive an increase because of the state of the councils finances due to government cuts, if only the Tory MP's did the same......When I was elected I reduced my working hours with my understanding employers at a huge cost to me personally.

My mother and father were both councillors and i agree they did not get any decent allowances. They never did it for a financial reward.

Just try and apply your grey matter for a second, if you believe councillors earn such amazing money, do you not think there would be many many more people trying to become one?

Them nasty tories it’s all their fault . You might be one of the few good ones don’t know you personally.

It would be good to get back to Cleveland again for an end to all that Yorkshire nonsense.

Anything is better than the current situation where we are in North Yorkshire, but we're in it in a way where people still think they can argue against it.

Cleveland hasn't existed as a county in 27 years, and it was only around for 22 years to begin with, but it's still everywhere because of how slow and backwards this country is when it comes to changing things.
Police force, postal service, government websites, the lot.

Largely because everyone's too cheap and lazy to update anything.

Unfortunately I think you’ve outed yourself as someone who doesn’t understand the remuneration of Councillors - or the legal obligations, expertise, and going market rates for skilled senior officers within certain industries within local government.

Given the financial state of most local authorities, if there was any way most of them could employ the right people for less, then they would to avoid effective bankruptcy.
