Redcar & Cleveland and Middlesbrough Council Merger

I see Simon Clarke is suggesting this should happen (a merger) to help both councils balance the books. I am sure there are some offices duplicated over the two councils that could merge to save money but on a whole, I don't think it would work.

It would be a no from me.

This would be from the party that campaigned for 4 smaller council areas as opposed to Cleveland Council despite this issue being raised in the 90s.

I don’t really know the history enough to comment on whether it would be a good idea. Certainly finances shouldn’t be the primary driver. Middlesbrough Council really has barely any further land to expand and much of the area just feels like the same urban sprawl. South Bank, Eston etc… always seem more part of Boro than Redcar.

Not sure if Redcar and Middlesbrough residents agree with welding them together, but I wouldn't like a county or some joint venture again. I think the towns have done well on their own using their own identity.

I think it would be a good idea.. a tory and on it although will probably mean an extra hand in the till.

Should merge Conservative and Labour parties. Would solve a lot of problems. (y)
Conservative and Reform party is pretty much going ahead.

Labour and Liberal Democrat Party seams to be Keir Starmer dream ticket.

The Socialists and the Greens should team up and sort their graphic design department out..

Would that be Cleveland County Council then? Honestly you really couldn’t make this sh1t up!

I'm in favour of abolishing the 4 Tory designed and forced Teesside unitary authorities and having just one larger authority, I was in favour of the one authority in 1996, the Tories believed that it would produce a Labour stronghold so decided to split it in small units fighting each other and to a certain extent they got their way.

I'm not in favour of merging "some" parts of it, at the Tories choosing to suit the aims of their party and not it's people again.
