Raheem Sterling

His inclusion raised a few eyebrows last night and it certainly didn't pay off.

Don't want to lay the boot in whilst he's down, but he's really low on form and really shouldn't be anywhere near the starting XI for the Euro's.

Can he regain his form and confidence in the friendlies? Should he be playing?

He won’t be playing in the friendlies. Players who have played in champions league or europa league this week will get extra time off to rest before Euros. Answer to the question I agree, no where near the line up on current form

He’s a senior player and probably one of the only leaders in the squad. Didn’t he take the captaincy when De Bruyne went off last night?

Southgate will trust him so I reckon he’ll start against Croatia.

Rashford and Sterling both looked off the pace in the 2 finals. Could be a big opportunity for the players who play in the wide positions of a 3 in the friendlies.

Sterling may have more joy for England against teams that don’t play 3 at the back and sit deep. I guess most teams sit deep and pack the centre when defending.

Yeah I would play Grealish wide left and Sancho wide right in the friendlies to see if they can stake a claim. Foden is a starter in one of the positions though, best of the lot.

England have the players to win the Euros: Since Gareth has always said his philosophy is to select the form players there should be a starting place for Grealish, Foden & Sancho however I suspect he will stick with Sterling and Rashford who are both woeful at present.

He can still do a job in the euros. I am not sure he's a starter now though.

Then again I thought the same for City. To bring a out of form player back for such a big game was bizzare. I guess Pep maybe played a hunch or he was bright in training. Also not picking a defensive midfielder for only the 5th time this season. Just seemed like tinkering for tinkering sake.

I think the change in formation was down to finding it difficult against Chelsea recently, but it still didn't work - he played a 'false 9' and no holding midfielder and Chelsea still looked dangerous on the break, as they did in the other games.

Cant remember a time when City looked so blunt, their attacks were suffocated by Chelsea, so that game alone is harsh to just Sterling on; Foden and Mahrez were equally ineffective.

I'd be very surprised if Sterling didn't start the first game in the Euro's.

It’ll be interesting what Gareth does with so many options available and as you say Sterling not in the best form. Could ancho or even grealish get the nod to support Kane.

On what grounds is he captain material - seniority is not one for me. I don’t see any leadership qualities in the fella.

Guardiola seems to think there is and he's better placed to judge that than you.

The optimist in me thought that he'd turn it on last night and clear a big mental hurdle prior to the England games, but it wasn't to be.

Mahrez was the riskier inclusion in my opinion. A player who would look immense at a team like Newcastle and definitely a great option for dominating the bottom 10 teams during a long gruelling season, but I can't recall seeing him drag a team into big games like Vardy and Kane could.

That said, even if Sterling, Mahrez and De Bruyne were in form last night, Chelsea's defence were incredibly good. Hugely improved from the weekly comedy errors before Tuchel's arrival.

Rashford has had long standing back and ankle problems, which he needs surgery to put right, but for some reason, he keeps putting off. I’m told that btw by a MUFC season ticket holder of 35 years, so although not entirely in the know, probably is more informed than an outsider.

That must be correct as Rashford alluded to some issues himself last week.

Sterling shouldn't be in the final squad for the Euros, there is far more talent available.
I couldn't believe City started him last night.

Rashford has more quality, but is clearly injured/jaded/off form. I think his place in the team is under threat at the moment.
