Players youve met and where was it?

Frank Spraggon and his family in Cala Millor in Majorca when I was a kid. My sister ended up friends with his daughter for the holiday so we saw him a few times. We went to his house after we got home and I can remember him showing me a photo of him going up for a header with Pele when he played in the NASL.

Not Football, but in the 90's stayed at a hotel in Cardiff and the Australian Rugby Team were in the bar. Huge but nice guys, they played a game of chasing my 3y.o. daughter around the reception. They were on tour and missing their own families.

Had a pint with Paul Kerr in a pub in Northallerton, late afternoon/early evening pre season. Really nice bloke, spoke really well of the rest of squad apart from Peter Davenport.
Went to a game with Nookie, top fella (y)

Not strictly in line with thread, but sat next to Jordon Pickfords dad on a flight to Ibiza, great character, very funny, as a were a couple of his son's mates on the flight. As they were queuing (along with about a dozen other people) for the toilet one says to the other, "are you still busting for a poo?".

We were on a motorcycle holiday in France and called into a sports shop in St Nazaire which was owned by the ex Celtic and Hearts player Stephane Mahe.
What a nice man, he spent over an hour chatting to me and our lass. His knowledge of Boro and Man Utd was very, very good.
He did make us laugh when he said that he can walk anywhere in France and nobody would bat an eyelid, but if he was in Glasgow or Edinburgh he would be mobbed!

Bumped into Stuart Ripley and Matt le Tissier in a bar in southampton when I was away at Uni. They bought me a few beers and we chatted for abit

also sat and ate breakfast and chatted with Gareth Barry and Kevin Phillips in the Gosforth park hotel at Newcastle once.

Bernie slaven in the gym at tall trees
Pallister in the bull in yarm

various players in the Dickens.

see Leo quite a lot in Richmond as he lives here.

also met the whole Boro team late 80s at a cricket match at Marske when I was young. I walked Mowbrays dog around the outside of the pitch for him.

Also see Archie Steven’s at family dos as my cousins married into his family.

Pally and Bernie. They would occasionally come and help us train at football, Back in 1988. Pally went to the same school as me.

Served Phil Stamp a sausage sarnie when I worked on the bar in Saltburn Golf Club. I was too starstruck to talk to him 😂

Used to work with and play five a side with the legend that was billy woof ! 😀 I know he has had a lot of stick but playing with it against a former pro makes you realise they are streets ahead of the average joe....

Used to regularly play football with Stuart Ripley and played wall ball with Gary Gill one Sunday morning. I think he had just signed as an apprentice and was having a little kick about to celebrate.
A few years later I had an argument with Darren Wood in the Madison but Paul Sugrue calmed the situation down.

Bernie Slaven was a surprise special guest at my wedding, my wife sorted that.

Met a few players at an MSS supporters do in London many years ago, Neil Cox, Robbo, Curtis, Alan Miller (RIP) and Wilf Mannion was there. I also went to Mannion’s house when I was very young with my Dad. It didn’t mean anything to me at the time.

When at Uni in Leeds I bumped into Lee Sharpe in a club. Showed him my Boro tattoo and said he should sign for us, but he didn’t fancy it!

Jim Smith in a bog in the Solent Hotel in Whiteley near Fareham.

Ross Turnbull outside a bar near Ducesa (?) between Malaga and Gib about 10 yrs ago.

Once approached Matt Le Tiss in a club in Southampton asking if he had any pills for a laugh. He looked horrified. Regret that a bit, but I was just a kid.

Paul Walsh in the Spa at the Solent Hotel a couple of years ago. He was buff and I had a bit of a man crush!

Emerson in Tenerife after he'd left. Had a chat with him and having met him previously when he seemed like the life and soul of the party he seemed deflated. He was happy to chat and pose for a photograph though.
I left feeling a bit sorry for him.
Still in my opinion the best player I've seen in a Boro shirt at his best. Shame that he didn't produce his best a bit more consistently.

Brian Clough (when Pool manager) at Hutton Road in a behind closed doors friendly v Stan Anderson's Boro. I was the only non club spectator. Asked me how I was (I had a walking stick recovering from a broken leg) and boy did he swear during the game....

Stewart Downing at a Guisborough town home game.

It was weird because he'd been linked with a move to Man U at the time and we were discussing it in the car on the way to the game.

We're in the car park and the next thing we see him getting out of the car with his Dad.

Got him to sign my programme and remember praising him for a recent performance he'd put in but be came across as quite shy.

A very young Lee Cattermole in Cologne on the afternoon of the England v Sweden game during Germany 2006, he was over there visiting Stewie Downing, he had a few pints with us and was an absolute diamond, was very surprised at some of the bad press he's had over the years.
Gordon McQueen on a flight back from Amsterdam to Teesside, he was sound as well, considering most of us could barely speak🤣 and Mogga loads of times round Redcar, always a gentleman(y)
