Ye I get that, but 2.5 million Muslims were not allowed to meet for eid. That’s a big chunk of the population to alienate, if anything helps people to bang the Islamphobia drum against the tories.....
The vast majority of people in this country celebrate Christmas, probably 60 million+ people and I'd bet that a majority of those people would celebrate it whether the government allow it or not.
I don't agree with this 5 day lifting, even though I'll end up utilising it, but it seems to me that they're legalising smaller gatherings to prevent them having to try and enforce the unenforceable.
It's clearly aimed at Christmas, but these 5 days aren't specific to Christmas.
Every person of the UK can gather in this time, whatever they celebrate or believe in.
If they'd tried to do the same during Eid or Diwali, they'd also have had to allow it for the entire 66m+ population, and in that case it's only being done to allow 4m to celebrate and it's definitely not worth the trade off.
